About us
MyVillage is the largest network of local entertainment city guides, covering 63 London areas and 23 major UK cities.
Our national network of sites provide local features, reviews, listings, events and social networking, where members can create events, groups and discussions, make friends, add music, photos and videos, and write reviews and blogs.
Users can book hotels and restaurants online, as well as find love, jobs and homes locally.
What makes us different:
Whilst other social networking sites focus on fostering global relationships, MyVillage is all about bringing people together - not just virtually, but in real life too.
Everyone who visits, joins and uses MyVillage has at least one thing in common - the place where they live, work or socialise.
MyVillage gives users the capacity not just to mirror their real life online, but to actually enhance it, by promoting events, creating groups, making friends, arranging dates and ultimately networking with people who hang out in their neighbourhood.
Whether you want to discuss a local issue, shout about a common cause, write or read reviews, or find out who's putting what on where - this is 'the' place to make the most of 'your' place.
How we got to where we are:
MyVillage was created in 1999 by Roifield Brown, as a way to connect with his local community in Notting Hill London. The site first launched under the guise of www.portowebbo.co.uk and served the neighbourhoods of Ladbroke Grove, Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill and Portobello - providing business listings, reviews, local features and forums, this comprehensive guide quickly gained a dedicated audience.
In 2000, local businessman Adam Cole bumps into www.portowebbo.co.uk whilst looking for a plumber. He immediately recognises it as a great concept and invests.
The company is rebranded as MyVillage and in 2001 the first suggestion of a network is born with the launch of sister sites, mykensington and mychelsea. Later that year the network expands radically, taking in all postcodes within central London. The content and technology continues to expand alongside the geographical reach, with additional forums, local news, event listings and online dating added to the fold.
Following resounding success and media accolades, in 2002 MyVillage goes national, launching 23 city sites throughout the UK. The network continues to add new functionality to the fold, via restaurant and hotel online booking, local classifieds and property search, and in 2008 MyVillage adds social recommedation to the platform.
