Scarlette Fever: Artists of 2011

Scarlette Fever is the alter ego of English songstress, Karen Louise Barrow. Born in Hertfordshire, this 28 year old is making waves in the music industry, and topping radio charts.
Signed to Starfisch Records, Scarlette Fever’s sound is pop music at it’s best, and thanks to dance remixes of her tracks flooding in from artists such as Jason Nevins, Temper D, and Bearcraft, Scarlette’s music is becoming even more popular in the clubs.
Scarlette’s debut album, Medication Time was released for digital download, along with an EP entitled Sticky Fingers in 2009. The lead single on both her LP and EP, You Don’t Know My Name, is a hunting and mesmerising track that you may well recognise, thanks to the sample of John Barry’s Midnight Cowboy, which the track is cleverly built around. The song also reinforces Scarlettes affinity with all things epic – being life, as we know it.
The singer-songwriter’s current single, Crash & Burn off the album, Medication Time, was released on January 16th 2011 and reached number 2 in the Music Week Commercial Pop Club Charts. The song itself is very dear to Scarlette as it is dedicated to a close friend whom she lost to cancer a few years ago. The emotive track represents the transience of life, along with vulnerability and love. There’s a lot in it for people to relate to, which is the basis for a hit record, as it draws on the listener’s own experiences. Crash & Burn could be compared to One Night Only’s Just For Tonight, but it encompasses more melodic and softer sounds. However, the track lends itself well to the dance music genre, as Jason Nevins remix highlights. Somehow the positive ‘sieze the day’ aspects of the song are brought to the forefront, as you imagine yourself on a Ibiza holiday, with Crash & Burn being the soundtrack to your summer!
Scarlette’s highly anticipated up and coming single, Black & White, is due for release on May 15th 2011, and it definitely lives up to its expectations. The track is about a relationship breakdown and coming out stronger and better off for it in the end. A song for all those ladies out there who need a current ‘I will survive’ track that will help them get over their Ex. Meditation Time can only be described as an infectious album, as all 14 tracks are fantastically catchy in their own ways. Other than the released singles, the stand out tracks for me are Hour of Sunshine, which has a distinct country feel to it, whilst remaining modern and foot stomping, and Cheatin’ Man, a motown inspired track which once again oozes confidence and woman power!
