Amy and Pete to perform at music awards - Nov 1 2007
The MTV Europe Music Awards are set to take place with Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty among the star performers.

Amy Winehouse is a triple nominee, shortlisted for Best UK Act, Best Album (Back To Black) and Most Addictive Track (Rehab).

Her rivals in the album category are Akon, Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park and Nelly Furtado.

Best Solo Artist will be a battle between Justin Timberlake, Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera, Mika, Nelly Furtado and Rihanna.

JT leads the field with four nominations.

The ceremony is being held this year in Munich, Germany, and hosted by rapper Snoop Dogg.

Organisers lined up a host of glamorous guest presenters including Joss Stone and model Lily Cole.

But the most eagerly awaited appearance of the night will be by Doherty and his band Babyshambles.

The troubled singer should be on his best behaviour.

On Monday he was handed a suspended jail sentence for a string of drug and motoring offences.

The 28-year-old frontman received a four month sentence suspended for two years, plus an 18-month supervision order and a 12-month drug rehabilitation order.

Asked outside court if he was pleased, he replied: "You must be joking. I won't be able to take drugs for two years."

Amy’s father fears for her health - Oct 30 2007

The father of singer Amy Winehouse has told of his ongoing fears for her health and claimed she did not touch hard drugs until she married Blake Fielder-Civil.

Mitch Winehouse told ITV1’s This Morning: "It’s apparent in her music that she’s smoked dope for quite a while, probably from the age of 16 or 17, perhaps even earlier.

"She was a complete opponent of hard drugs - in fact, she got up and said she couldn’t understand why people in the music industry took hard drugs and that changed about six months ago when she got married to Blake.

"And I’m not saying it’s Blake’s fault, what I’m saying is Amy’s responsible for her own actions.

"However, it’s a fact that the hard drugs coincided with their marriage."

Mr Winehouse said his daughter has cut down on her drinking in the past year but is still battling bulimia and drug addiction.

"She’s not drinking as heavily as she was then actually, but there are other problems. The other problem is the bulimia which is still apparent, although she’s put on about a stone in weight, but it’s still affecting her health. And there are problems with substance abuse as well. But it’s not as bad as has been reported."

He added: "Her family are there, the doctors are there, the facilities are there should she wish to make use of them. We’re not completely helpless, things are in position."

Amy: I’m very insecure - Oct 23 2007

Amy Winehouse has reportedly opened up about the insecurities that trigger her hellraising behaviour.

The troubled star, who was arrested in Norway last week for cannabis possession, speaks about her problems in a new DVD, the Daily Mirror reports.

In the documentary I Told You I Was Trouble, Amy confessed: "I was just doing one destructive thing after another. I was quite self-destructive.

"I always say I don’t regret things and I don’t say sorry, but I do really. I believe strongly in fate. I believe that everything happens for a reason."

The 24-year-old went on to attribute her reported problems to insecurities about her looks.

Biography

Amy Winehouse hails from Osidge Lane, Southgate, although she currently lives in Camden. She is being feted as the new big thing with a voice likened to soul artists of the caliber of American soul queen Erykah Badu.

Amy and her brother Alex were brought up by her mum and grandmother, and fondly remembers ’Growing up in East Finchley was cool.’ She started playing guitar at 12 and listening to jazz. Her acceptance into the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School seemed to spell big things for Amy, although she was expelled at 15, apparently for getting her nose pierced. She carried on her studies at an all girls school in Mill Hill, which she hated as there were no fella’s there.

Amy made appearances with the Youth Jazz Orchestra, produced a demo tape of jazz covers that was picked up by Universal/Island Records, and they signed her almost immediately. She released her album Frank in October 2003 and supported Jamie Callum on his national tour. Amy then went on to be nominated for two Brit Awards, British Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Artist. Not bad for a girl of 20!
