Amy Winehouse has apparently found herself a new pal across the pond - Britney Spears.

The wild-haired singer - who has just got engaged to boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil - has become firm friends with the Toxic songstress, and the duo have even been out in LA together, reports the Daily Star.

A source told the paper: "Britney was really keen to meet Amy after falling in love with her album, Back To Black.

"Her people set up a meeting at the Sky Bar in LA and the girls really hit it off.

"Britney wants her material to be more autobiographical and raw - something Amy really achieved in her recent work."

The insider said the pair got on so well they headed to new Hollywood club Winston’s where they spent the night chatting.

"Amy told Britney about her recent engagement," said the source.

"Britney said she was sure it would be a success as Amy had returned to the one true love of her life. She was really excited for her about it."

Amy to marry Blake? - April 24 2007

Amy Winehouse has got engaged to her on-off boyfriend, Blake Fielder-Civil.

The Rehab songstress was spotted with a sparkler on her ring finger last week, and has been introducing Blake as her fiance.

The 23-year-old told The Sun: "I’m a very lucky girl to have found someone I love so much. I hope to be with him for the rest of my life. We haven’t set a date yet or anything like that."

The couple met two years ago but split last year when Blake - a music video assistant - began dating someone else.

Amy says much of her hit album Back To Black was inspired by their break-up, including the emotional hit Tears Dry On Their Own.

The singer then dated chef Alex Claire - but not long after they split last month, she was back in the arms of her ex.

Amy monkeys around - April 19 2007

Amy Winehouse got up to some monkey business at Bristol Zoo today, where she spent time feeding the lemurs - and canoodling with her man.

Dressed in a black top and skimpy shorts, the singer snuggled up to her hat-wearing beau in the sunshine before heading into the primate pen where she got to feed the furry creatures.

The Brit winner, who has previously covered the track Monkey Man, was in the city ahead of her exclusive Vodafone TBA concert

And it seems there might be even more monkeys in Amy’s future - the Arctic ones. It’s rumoured the wild-haired songstress will support the Sheffield rockers at their two all-day gigs at Lancashire County Cricket Ground this summer.

Monkeys frontman Alex Turner apparently told The Sun that it would be "great" if Amy could perform alongside the band when they take to the stage.

Biography

Amy Winehouse hails from Osidge Lane, Southgate, although she currently lives in Camden. She is being feted as the new big thing with a voice likened to soul artists of the caliber of American soul queen Erykah Badu.

Amy and her brother Alex were brought up by her mum and grandmother, and fondly remembers ’Growing up in East Finchley was cool.’ She started playing guitar at 12 and listening to jazz. Her acceptance into the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School seemed to spell big things for Amy, although she was expelled at 15, apparently for getting her nose pierced. She carried on her studies at an all girls school in Mill Hill, which she hated as there were no fella’s there.

Amy made appearances with the Youth Jazz Orchestra, produced a demo tape of jazz covers that was picked up by Universal/Island Records, and they signed her almost immediately. She released her album Frank in October 2003 and supported Jamie Callum on his national tour. Amy then went on to be nominated for two Brit Awards, British Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Artist. Not bad for a girl of 20!
