Angelina to apply for visa for new son - Mar 20 2007
Angelina Jolie has arrived in Hanoi to complete the procedures necessary to take her adopted Vietnamese son to his new home in the United States.
The actress flew to Hanoi from Ho Chi Minh City after adopting three-year-old Pax Thien at an orphanage on the outskirts of the city last week.
She checked into Hanoi’s historic Metropole Hotel at about 5.30pm local time.
The superstar dodged reporters on her way to and from the airport and slipped into the hotel through a basement entrance.
Angelina is expected to meet with US Embassy officials tomorrow, when she will apply for a visa for Pax.
The star filed adoption papers as a single parent, because she and her partner Brad Pitt are not married.
The star already has three children with Brad Pitt - five-year-old Maddox, adopted from Cambodia, two-year-old Zahara, who was adopted from Ethiopia, and baby daughter, Shiloh, who was born to the couple in May.
Angie’s new son bewildered by adoption - Mar 19 2007
The latest addition to Angelina Jolie’s brood burst into tears when he was formally handed over to his glamorous new mum, apparently unaware that he was being adopted.
The three-year-old boy, now named Pax Thien Jolie, began crying when Angelina knelt down to speak to him during Thursday’s welcome ceremony at Tam Binh Orphanage in Ho Chi Monh, according to orphanage director Nguyen Van Trung.
"She told me she understands - that it’s normal for all young children to be scared," Trung told People magazine.
Pax, who’s been described as a happy but shy child, had good reason to be bewildered by all the attention, as staff had avoided telling him about the adoption ceremony, fearing it would upset him.
"We did not say anything to him, afraid we might put pressure on him and more frightened," the boy’s main carer at the orphanage, Bui Thi Thanh Tuyen, told the magazine.
"We just told him that we are taking him out. You are going to play outside - play with a mother and father."
Pax, who was equipped with a small box containing two sets of clothes and his favourite toys, soon cheered up after being led into a private room to bond with his new mum.
"Later he was OK, very cheerful and happy. He even played with his new brother Maddox," added Nguyen.
"We are glad that he’s adopted. He’s very clever and I hope he has a good life," Bui said, adding that she’ll miss him. "We just hope he will return to visit us one day."
Angelina worried about paparazzi - Mar 16 2007
Angelina Jolie is worried that the media frenzy surrounding her latest adoption will upset her new son, it’s been reported.
The actress picked up three-year-old Pax Thien from Tam Binh orphanage in Vietnam yesterday, with countless photographers trying to snap every minute.
In an interview in today’s Ho Chi Minh City Law newspaper, published by the city’s justice department, Angelina was quoted as saying: "Photographs and press coverage will make him (Pax) upset. I’m very worried about that.

Her family moved to LA when Angelina was eleven and she soon began working on her acting career, enrolling in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute where ahe appeared in several productions. Despite her abilities Angelina was teased during her time at Beverley Hills High School - far from being beautiful and popular she was skinny, with glasses and braces and wore second hand clothes. At 14 she dropped out of theatre classes, harbouring dreams of becoming a funeral director, and began cutting herself. Angelina began a rebellious period of her life, moving out of home and in with her boyfriend.
At around the same time she was taken on by Finesse Model Management and took jobs in the US and Europe, she also appeared in several music videos for the likes of Meat Loaf and Lenny Kravitz. Then, at 16, she returned to acting and rekindled her relationship with her father. She appeared in several of her brother’s student films before, in 1993 she was offered a role in sci-fi flick Cyborg 2. Several equally poor productions followed before Angelina landed a role in Hackers, which was a cult hit and threw the actress in the direction of Jonny Lee Miller, whom she would soon marry.
Little known films such as Foxfire and Mojave Moon followed but it was the Golden Globe winning George Wallace that got Angelina noticed and Pushing Tin, which co-starred Billy Bob Thornton and The Bone Collector helped her on her way to global stardom. However it was her part as messed up teenager Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted which won her her place on the Hollywood walk of fame. The role won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress as well as several other accolades.
Action movies Gone In 60 Seconds and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider followed and made sure Angelina was admired the world over by men and women alike. Meanwhile her personal life became just as fascinating than her on screen performances. Having divorced Jonny Lee Miller she married Pushing Tin costar Billy Bob Thornton, famously they wore vials of blood around their neck, however in 2003 they also divorced despite having adopted a Cambodian orphan, Maddox. At the same time she admitted she had had a relationship with a female costar on the set of Foxfire. Meanwhile she continued with her now much publicised humanitarian work, as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN and her film career, appearing in Alexander and Taking Lies among others.
In 2005 Angelina took a leading role in Mr & Mrs Smith, opposite Brad Pitt. Although the movie itself was widely panned the burgeoning relationship between Angelina and Brad, who was at the time in the process of splitting from Jennifer Aniston, made sure it was a hit. The relationship was also a success, in January 2006 Angelina announced that she was pregnant, just months after adopting second child, Ethiopian Zahara, she gave birth to Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.
Angelina has confirmed that she is working on a screen adaptation of Beowulf, A Mighty Heart and Atlas Shrugged.
