Angie expected in Vietnam for adoption - Mar 14 2007
Angelina Jolie is expected to arrive in Vietnam later today to adopt a three-year-old boy, adoption officials said.
The actress is expected to attend an adoption ceremony with Vietnamese officials in Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow morning.
After she receives the child, Angelina will meet with US consular officials, who must review the adoption before a passport can be issued for the boy.
If all goes according to plan, the star could take the child home by the weekend, officials said.
The boy was abandoned at a Ho Chi Minh City hospital as a baby and then taken to the nearby Tam Binh orphanage, where he has lived ever since, said Nguyen Van Trung, the orphanage director.
Shortly after he arrived at the orphanage, the Tam Binh staff tried unsuccessfully to locate the boy’s birth parents.
The adoption is being processed quickly because the boy is an older child, and his files were nearly complete before Angelina decided to adopt, Trung said.
The actress and her partner Brad Pitt have three children: five-year-old Maddox, adopted from Cambodia, two-year-old Zahara, who was adopted from Ethiopia, and a biological daughter, Shiloh, who was born in May.
Angie adoption ’should move swiftly’ - Mar 8 2007
The little boy that Angelina Jolie plans to adopt from Vietnam will probably be moving to the US with the actress in no more than three months, Vietnam’s top adoption official said today.
Angelina chose the child, who is between three and four-years-old, during a recent visit to the Tam Binh orphanage on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, said Vu Duc Long, the head of the Justice Ministry’s international adoption department in Hanoi.
Under ordinary circumstances, Long said, it takes about four months to process an adoption after the forms arrive at his office.
If the prospective parent has already chosen a child, the adoption can be completed in just three months.
"Three months would be the longest," Long said, adding that Angelina’s case could be processed faster than that.
Long confirmed last week that the star had filed adoption papers, but didn’t provide any details about the child or how long the process would take.
The actress initiated the adoption process in the US, but her application only arrived at Long’s office last week.
His department has approved the application and sent it to officials in Ho Chi Minh City, who must also review it.
Angelina and her partner Brad Pitt have two adopted children - five-year-old Maddox and two-year-old Zahara. They also have a biological daughter, nine-month-old Shiloh.

Her family moved to LA when Angelina was eleven and she soon began working on her acting career, enrolling in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute where ahe appeared in several productions. Despite her abilities Angelina was teased during her time at Beverley Hills High School - far from being beautiful and popular she was skinny, with glasses and braces and wore second hand clothes. At 14 she dropped out of theatre classes, harbouring dreams of becoming a funeral director, and began cutting herself. Angelina began a rebellious period of her life, moving out of home and in with her boyfriend.
At around the same time she was taken on by Finesse Model Management and took jobs in the US and Europe, she also appeared in several music videos for the likes of Meat Loaf and Lenny Kravitz. Then, at 16, she returned to acting and rekindled her relationship with her father. She appeared in several of her brother’s student films before, in 1993 she was offered a role in sci-fi flick Cyborg 2. Several equally poor productions followed before Angelina landed a role in Hackers, which was a cult hit and threw the actress in the direction of Jonny Lee Miller, whom she would soon marry.
Little known films such as Foxfire and Mojave Moon followed but it was the Golden Globe winning George Wallace that got Angelina noticed and Pushing Tin, which co-starred Billy Bob Thornton and The Bone Collector helped her on her way to global stardom. However it was her part as messed up teenager Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted which won her her place on the Hollywood walk of fame. The role won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress as well as several other accolades.
Action movies Gone In 60 Seconds and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider followed and made sure Angelina was admired the world over by men and women alike. Meanwhile her personal life became just as fascinating than her on screen performances. Having divorced Jonny Lee Miller she married Pushing Tin costar Billy Bob Thornton, famously they wore vials of blood around their neck, however in 2003 they also divorced despite having adopted a Cambodian orphan, Maddox. At the same time she admitted she had had a relationship with a female costar on the set of Foxfire. Meanwhile she continued with her now much publicised humanitarian work, as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN and her film career, appearing in Alexander and Taking Lies among others.
In 2005 Angelina took a leading role in Mr & Mrs Smith, opposite Brad Pitt. Although the movie itself was widely panned the burgeoning relationship between Angelina and Brad, who was at the time in the process of splitting from Jennifer Aniston, made sure it was a hit. The relationship was also a success, in January 2006 Angelina announced that she was pregnant, just months after adopting second child, Ethiopian Zahara, she gave birth to Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.
Angelina has confirmed that she is working on a screen adaptation of Beowulf, A Mighty Heart and Atlas Shrugged.
