Church film flops - 03/07/03
Cardiff girl Charlotte Church’s debut film, I’ll Be There, has bombed at the British box office.
The film has now been dropped by cinemas across the land after pulling in just ?1,039 from 21 screens in its second week of release - ?49 a screen.
Even film fans in Charlotte’s hometown of Cardiff have avoided the film, with one cinema reporting that I’ll Be There had only taken ?600 and was dropped after one week.
The low budget romantic comedy is about the daughter of a has-been rock star hoping to make it as singer.
Charlotte’s hometown premiere - 10/06/03
Charlotte Church attended the premiere of her first movie with her favourite accessory in tow - her boyfriend.
Charlotte wore jeans with a black low cut keyhole top for her first premiere at Cardiff Bay’s UCI cinema. She said that the London premiere would be the ’big glitzy one’, and that explained the absence of her family, as they wanted to attend the one in London, and it was nothing to do with the fact that their was a rift between Charlotte’s parents and her fella.
Steven Johnson wore a fashionably baggy white shirt and stood proudly by Charlotte’s side, quashing rumours of being such a ’bad boy’ boyfriend, while Charlotte did little to increase that reputation by saying that he is ’really shy!’ Ahh bless him. Maybe they are more suited as a duo then anyone first thought!
Voice of a Fallen Angel. - 03/06/03
Cardiff girl Charlotte Church displays star attitude and gets down and dirrty on her fellow celebs.
Her main gripe is with Christina Aguelira, but Britney and J-Lo also get a swipe of the cats paw. Charlotte said ’Christina cheapens herself to make everybody look at her and the first thing that comes to mind is ’slag’.
Britney is gorgeous but she wears too much make-up, and J-Lo works out three hours a day, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t drink and doesn’t eat certain things - that sounds really boring!’ Ooo - get her.
Charlotte is not above displaying the odd diva tendancies herself - revealing that she once spent more than ?4,000 on a designer frock, but it was an ’emergency purchase’.
"When I was in Las Vegas I needed dress for a show and so I bought a designer one for 7,000 dollars (?4,260), as we were running out of time"
Emergency purchases for most other ladies normally involve Boots and a handbag size packet of Tampons.
Show Me The Money - 07/05/03
Charlotte Church will have access to her multi million pound fortune next year.
Most of the singer’s cash has been tied up in a trust fund set up by parents Maria and James, which she thought she would not control until she is 21.
Her lawyers have now told her the fortune is hers when she turns 18 on February 21.
Church told The Face magazine: "There’s no point leaving millions. I want to spend a lot of it while I’m alive.
"My parents brainwashed me - "No, you can’t do it when you’re 18, it’s 21! 21! 21!"

Five years later and Charlotte was making a name for herself at local karaoke competitions, and then...
"I was watching the Richard and Judy show on TV and they said they were looking for talented kids. No-one was around so I phoned up," she says. "The producers said I had to sing down the phone. So I did ’Pie Jesu’ and that was it, I was invited on the show. Mum and Dad were the last to find out!"
This led to even more television performances, as well as high profile concerts at the London Palladium, the Royal Albert Hall and Cardiff Arms Park. "It all went a bit mad!" laughs Charlotte.
Now eighteen Charlotte has become a media icon. A ill advised relationship with ’model’ and all round bad boy Steven Johnson and on going arguments with her mother have put Charlotte very much under public scrutiny, but it has only made her more popular. Charlotte will turn her hand to anything these days, she presented Have I Got News For You? made a guest appearance on a dance track and even starred in a film, I’ll Be There. She is a chat show regular, openly voicing her opinions about fellow stars in a very down to earth way.
She may be one of the richest teenagers in the UK after coming into her fortune on her eighteenth but Charlotte Church is as normal as they come.
