David Tennant
- Profession: Actor
- Place/Date of Birth: Bathgate, West Lothian, 18 April 2020
"They always have some disability, don’t they? I could have one leg and be stroking a chicken saying, ’I’ve infected the world with bird flu’," he said.
But the 35-year-old insists he wouldn’t play the dashing spy himself, particularly as hunky Daniel Craig looks as if he’s in for the long haul.
"I think that job’s taken for a while - mind you, I said that about Doctor Who," he said.
Even if he doesn’t get his wish, David has apparently been inundated with offers of work as a result of his star turn as the Doctor.
He is now gearing up to play a driving instructor in a new BBC film. Learners starts shooting this month and will be shown later this year.
David swaps Tardis for L plates - April 4 2007
Doctor Who star David Tennant is to play a driving instructor in a new BBC film.
The BBC One comedy drama about a group of learner drivers was written by Spaced actress Jessica Stevenson.
She also appears as Bev, a downtrodden wife who has failed her driving test eight times.
She develops a crush on her new instructor, played by David, a devout Christian who is secretly in love with the glamorous driving school owner.
The film, Learners, starts shooting this month and will be shown later this year.
Jessica said the film was based on her own experiences as a hopeless driver.
"It took me 10 years to pass my test - this year I finally did it so I could do the film," she said. "I had a great instructor who taught me to take my time and relax. When I passed I cried with joy."
David is currently starring as the Timelord in the third Russell T Davies series of Doctor Who.
The show will be back for series four - but Tennant has refused to reveal whether he will return in the lead role.
Doctor Who to light up Blackpool - April 1 2007
David Tennant is set to light up Blackpool this summer when he switches on the world-famous illuminations.
The Doctor Who hunk will be swapping the control panel of the Tardis for the controls of the six-mile long glittering light display during a free concert in August.
Jackie Potter, Strategic Director of Tourism and Regeneration, said: "We are absolutely delighted that David Tennant has accepted our invitation. The Switch On celebrations are enjoyed by a huge family audience and we are sure this will be a popular choice."
David, who returns to our screens tomorrow in the new series of Doctor Who, will be guest of honour at the brightest night in Blackpool’s year.
Jackie added: "The concert during which he will throw the switch marks the start of Blackpool’s Big Switch On Weekend. We hope that thousands of fans of David, and of Blackpool, will join us in the celebrations."
Illuminations bosses are also set to unveil plans for a new display featuring characters and creatures from forthcoming episodes of Doctor Who.
David is the latest in a long list of stars to have launched the lights, including the fourth Doctor, Tom Baker, who illuminated the town back in 1975.
Blackpool Illuminations shine along six miles of the promenade for 66 nights from August 31, 2020 until November 3, 2007.

In the early 90s Tennant moved to London, where he lodged with comic actress Arabella Weir. During this time he worked for the Royal Shakespeare Company, specialising in comic roles and later became a favourite of the BBC, first appearing in Taking Over The Asylum in 1994 and ten years later He Knew He Was Right, Casanova and Blackpool. Meanwhile he began working in films, picked by Stephen Fry to appear in Bright Young Things and playing Barty Crouch Jr in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.
Although Tennant’s name had been put forward for the role of the ninth doctor when Doctor Who returned to our screens, Christopher Eccleston was a shoo in for the role. However, when Eccleston, worried about being typecast, quit after just one series the Beeb went back to their original list, confirming that Tennant would be the tenth doctor in April 2005. His first full outing as the doctor was on Christmas Day 2005 and in 2006 he was voted Best Doctor by readers of Doctor Who Magazine. Meanwhile he was also voted one of the most influential British actors by The Stage, Sexiest Man in the Universe by The Pink Paper, Scotland’s Most Stylish Man and came 20th in New Woman’s Top 100 Men.
Although the doctor has taken up much of Tennant’s time recently, he has also found time to appear in several television dramas including The Chatterley Affair and Recovery plus trace his ancestry to Ireland in Who Do You Think You Are?
Tennant is reportedly dating actress Sophia Myles, who he met on set when she played Madame De Pompadour in an episode of Doctor Who.
