Denise Van Outen
- Profession: TV Presenter
- Place/Date of Birth: Basildon, Essex, 27 May 2020
The blonde, who once dated Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay, said she struggles to relax in a relationship because she’s always convinced it will ultimately fail. "Whoever I’m with I find myself waiting for it to go wrong. I’ve built up a wall because of past experiences," she said.
But the former Big Breakfast host - who divides her time between the UK and Los Angeles - insists her past experiences haven’t put her off relationships. "I’m trying to get over it by dating lots of men," she said.

Denise’s new Heart - Jan 05
Denise Van Outen is to take yet another new direction. Our Den changes her career path as often as we change our undies here in the MyVillage offices and her latest change is a world away from her high kicking antics in Chicago or her on screen banter with Johnny Vaughn. The Essex girl made good is to head to Yorkshire for a stint in ITV rural drama Where The Heart Is. Den will play a District Nurse, Kim, in the series, but don’t worry, she won’t be abandoning her distinctive accent - Kim is to be a southerner making a new start in rural Yorkshire.
Den’s outta love - Nov 04
Denise Van Outen has split with boyfriend. Just when we thought the Essex girl was going to settle down news reaches us that Den has split with her partner of three years, nightclub owner Richard Traviss amid rumours that he couldn’t cope with her still being hung up on old flame Jay Kay. "He’s done nothing wrong, we’re still talking and I’m not with anyone else." Denise told press just after the split. Rumour has it that a reconciliation is on the cards - but with Jay Kay rather than Richard. The pair split some time ago but friends seem sure that the pair were meant for each other and that it’s only a matter of time before they get back together.
Princess Denise - October 04
Denise Van Outen is to play Grace Kelly in a Broadway musical. Star of stage and screen Denise so impressed the good people of Broadway during her turns in Chicago and Tell Me On A Sunday that the brains behind a new production snapped her up for the lead. Information about the musical is thin on the ground but what we do know is that Denise will be playing Grace Kelly, the Hollywood actress who became a Princess before dying tragically in a car crash in 1982.
Model presenter - 04/12/03
TV presenter Denise Van Outen has become a mail order model for Freemans catalogue.
The Tell Me On A Sunday stage actress is pictured in a series of glam outfits for the well-known mail order firm. She is promoting the "One" contemporary collection aimed at the "fashion conscious, busy female who demands fashion at her fingertips when it’s convenient for her".
Denise will be in a catalogue near you from January...
Nun of that! - 15/08/03
Denise Van Outen is returning to our TV screens - cast as a Nun.
The bubbly blonde has been treading the boards in the West End and Broadway for quite a while now, but it appears that she is looking forward to getting back on the small screen.
The show is to be called ’Loose Cannons’ and Denise’s character will be called Sister Mary - described as a ’boisterous, ladette nun!’ The bunch of odd characters will be fighting to save a run down church.

Denise attended the famous Sylvia Young’s stage school; her schoolmates included Baby Spice, Dani Behr and Martine McCutheon. She’s a press favourite and celebrity since she joined Channel 4’s early show The Big Breakfast in 1995. She is well known for her on-screen chemistry and crazy antics with co-host Johnny Vaughan and the pair realised a single for Comic Relief - a cover of the Kylie & Jason song "Especially For You" in 1998, which made the top ten.
After The Big Breakfast, Denise presented the saucy programme Something For the Weekend, and Record Of The Year. She also starred in the sitcom Babes In The Wood and had roles in the film Love Honour & Obey and Tube Tales.
She famously nicked an ashtray from a royal reception for ’young achievers’, and then returned it with an apologetic note to Buckingham Palace. As well as flashing her bra at Prince Charles’s back during a charity pop concert, she told reporters that she’d only done it to make the pop group Steps laugh at an inappropriate moment.
She dated musician and lead singer in Jamiroquai, Jay Kay for three years. They were engaged and rumoured to be getting married. However, they’ve since split somewhat acrimoniously and she still lives in her bachelor-girl flat in Islington.
Denise’s most recent works includes starring as Roxie Hart in the hit musical "Chicago".
