Geri’s confession may end her American dream 13/03/01
Geri Halliwell has revealed her secret criminal record, as a warning to the deprived children she is helping through Comic Relief. The blonde diva and UN goodwill ambassador was convicted for shoplifting and handling stolen goods when she was just 17. Geri confessed: "It’s not something to be proud of, but if talking about it prevents one kid from making the same mistakes then it’s got to be worth it." Geri may not have realised what she has got herself in for, as she now may be facing a lifetime ban from entering America, because of their strict rules on entering the country. Officials at the American Embassy in London indicated yesterday that they want to interview Geri to decide whether her convictions for shoplifting, theft and handling stolen goods mean she should be banned. A ban would come as a tremendous blow to Geri, who loves the States and spends much of her time there. Geri’s American dream has also encompassed trips to New York as a British "ambassador" for the United Nations’ Population Fund.

Geri Halliwell has flown to Los Angeles to help George Michael recover from his recent back operation. The former Wham! singer, who underwent surgery two weeks ago, has been recuperating in his US home with boyfriend Kenny Goss, and Geri thinks that her visit will boost his spirits. George and Geri became firm friends after the ginger-haired singer left The Spice Girls and sought refuge at Michael’s holiday pad in the south of France. Geri has been doing a lot of travelling recently - she has just returned to Britain after a short skiing holiday in St Tropez with her pop star friend Robbie Williams. Despite press speculation, they have denied rumours that they are a couple.

Geri Halliwell has bought a home in Notting Hill, just 200 yards from Robbie William’s pad. Geri and Robbie who have just returned from a skiing holiday insist that they are "just good friends" now, more than that, they are neighbours.

In the 1990s Geri became one fifth of the worlds biggest girl band and has never looked back. Along with Mel B, Emma, Mel C and Victoria, she scored some of the biggest hits of the decade, made a feature film and raked in the cash through sponsorship deals. But in May ’98 Geri made the shock announcement that she was to leave the band to persue a solo career.
She sold her Spice clothes to raise more than $200,000 for a cancer charity, journeyed to Uganda for Comic Relief, was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations, and even got to sing "Happy Birthday" to the future king of England, Prince Charles.
Nearly a year after her departure from the Spice Girls, Halliwell released her debut solo album, Schizophonic, whose sound is a self-described cross between "Julie Andrews and Johnny Rotten." The album, released on Capitol Records, contained Halliwell’s first single, "Look at Me." which went to number 2 in the charts. She followed up the success of Schizophonic with Scream If You Want To Go Faster in 2001. After going solo, Geri moved to LA, formed an unlikely close relationship with George Michael and told all to the press about her eating disorders after losing an incredible amount of weight and releasing two yoga videos.
Geri is now back in the UK, working on new material and a reality TV show which will follow the format of The Osbournes. She’s also back to her old busty ginger self!
