The long-haul shopping trip caused a spectacle at the local airport, when the plane waited on runway for two hours, as two servants unloaded the delivery. The bags - reportedly packed with fizzy drinks and organic food - were then shiftily taken back to the ranch.

The bizarre shopping trip is the latest attempt from the ’Top Gun’ actor to keep his family out of the public eye. Katie, 27, has also been rarely spotted since giving birth to Suri, who has still not made her first public appearance.

Katie Holmes’ parents are reportedly refusing to attend her wedding to fiancé Tom Cruise. The ’Top Gun’ actor plans to marry the ’Batman Begins’ actress, the mother of his daughter Suri, in a Scientology ceremony in late July or early August.

However, Katie’s devoutly Catholic parents, Martin and Kathleen, will not attend the nuptials because they do not approve of Tom’s devotion to the bizarre sci-fi cult. The ceremony will allegedly be conducted by Scientology leader David Miscavige. A family friend revealed to America’s Life and Style magazine that Katie’s mum and dad "are not happy" with their daughter’s choice of where to marry. It is also claimed that the former ’Dawson’s Creek’ star had hoped to have a separate Catholic wedding to appease her angry parents but Tom is not willing to compromise.

According to the source, Martin Holmes allegedly said: "If Katie can have a proper Catholic wedding her whole family will gladly be a part of." Since she began dating Tom, Katie has become heavily involved in Scientology, and is reputedly planning to convert from Catholicism to the ’religion’. Recently, Tom’s ex-wife Nicole Kidman was told by the Catholic Church that, in their eyes, she had never been married to the actor as it had not been sanctioned by the church.

It has now been claimed Tom is reluctant to show off Suri because Scientology doctrine teaches followers of the sci-fi cult to avoid taking newborn babies out unless absolutely necessary.

A friend of the actor told Grazia magazine: "Tom insists he’ll do it in his own time. He won’t be bullied into showing his world his precious angel. Tom wants to obey Scientology rules about keeping babies out of the public eye." Tom is a devout follower of the bizarre faith, founded by science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, and is open about his beliefs.

Before Suri was born, it was claimed that Katie would have to give birth in silence. Scientologists believe babies should enter the world without any outside noise to stop them from being mentally scarred by the delivery. It is believed the former ’Dawson’s Creek’ actress gave birth as calmly as possible but did not keep a vigil of silence throughout her labour.
