Reese to star in Midnight? - May 31 2007
Reese Witherspoon has reportedly been signed up to star in a Universal Pictures remake of 1939 comedy Midnight.
The new feature will be scripted by Michael Arndt, who picked up an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine, reports Variety.
In the original pic, Claudette Colbert played an impoverished young woman in Paris who becomes involved in a wealthy man’s bid to stop a gigolo wooing his wife.
John Barrymore also starred in the Mitchell Leisen-directed flick, written by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder.
The film is Arndt’s idea, which prompted a host of producers to get on board.
He told Variety: "Midnight has long been one of my favourite films, and it is easily one of the best comedies of the 30s.
"Being given the chance to update the film with Reese in the lead is simply a dream come true."
The blonde will also produce the film through her company Type A Films.
Reese faced with fight for children - May 18 2007
Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon is facing a custody battle for her children as estranged husband Ryan Phillippe filed for joint custody this week.
Witherspoon filed for divorce on November 8, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split, and she asked for physical custody of the couple’s two children -- seven-year-old Ava and three-year-old Deacon.
In the Superior Court divorce petition, Witherspoon, 31, asked for visitation for Phillippe, 32, and "exclusive use of the family residence".
In a response filed on Tuesday, Phillippe also cited irreconcilable differences but asked for joint legal custody and physical custody of the children as well as visitation granted "to both parties, equally allocated".
Phillippe’s petition was first reported by CelebTV.com.
Witherspoon publicist Nancy Ryder was not available for comment.
The documents filed with the court in November and this week do not list separate or community property, saying the nature of the assets has yet to be determined.
Witherspoon’s petition requested that the court not grant any spousal support to Phillippe. There was no request for support in Phillippe’s petition.
The couple, who co-starred in the 1999 release Cruel Intentions, married that year.
Last year, Witherspoon won an Academy Award for her role as June Carter Cash in 2005’s Walk the Line. Phillippe co-starred in the best-picture Oscar winner, Crash, and starred in Clint Eastwood’s Flags of Our Fathers.

"This thing is for real," the source added.
A source tells the mag that Reese and Jake didn’t share much screen time in Rendition but got friendly when they returned to Los Angeles for reshoots.
