She warned of legal action if the allegations continued.

"My culture and upbringing does not permit me to break marriages and I am the least interested in knowing or hearing any more about her."

Shilpa said her "conscience is clear" over the "wild accusations".

Kavita has been quoted as saying: "Now I look at the pictures of them together and think, she’s with my husband, she’s living my life.

"She can have any man she wants and there are plenty of single men about."

Shilpa musical headed for Europe - July 20 2007

Shilpa Shetty is heading for the West End with her new Bollywood musical, before taking it on tour to Germany.

The Bollywood star, who plays the lead in the new show, told The Times of India newspaper the musical was not based on her.

The musical tells the story of a Bollywood actress who gives the world a glimpse of India through songs and dances - so not actually a million miles away from the Celebrity Big Brother winner’s life.

And Shilpa revealed she was excited about starting rehearsals for the musical, titled Miss Bollywood.

The show may also move on to other destinations, she added, as well as Germany where 60 performances are planned.

The star, who has been awarded a doctorate of arts by Leeds Metropolitan University, has previously said she hopes the musical will gives Westerners a glimpse into Indian tradition.

"I want foreigners to get familiar with Indian culture. Racism breeds out of ignorance," she explained.

Doctorate for Shilpa - July 19 2007

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty was praised for her "dignity and poise" as she received an honorary degree.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner was awarded a doctorate of arts by Leeds Metropolitan University.

She was praised for the way in which she handled the Celebrity Big Brother racism row earlier this year.

Wearing an orange outfit, deep red robes, a blue and orange hood, black cap and gold strappy sandals, Shilpa took her place on the stage with academics from the university.

Addressing the graduands, Vice Chancellor Professor Simon Lee described the Bollywood beauty as distinguished and inspirational and made reference to her time in the Celebrity Big Brother house when viewers complained about the way she was treated by Jade Goody, singer Jo O’Meara and model Danielle Lloyd.

Prof Lee said: "There are some parallels between the challenges faced in any house and student life.

"Someone at some time will behave badly, not necessarily to you but to others or the wider community, to someone or some group who cannot defend themselves.

"In Shilpa Shetty you are graduating with someone who rose to that challenge with great dignity and poise, making a difference."

The actress was clearly emotional as she accepted the degree.

She said: "I am so overwhelmed, I am choked with emotions and I can’t stop smiling.

"I have won some awards, at the cost of sounding immodest, I have never seen my mother beam so much as she is today. I can see the pride in her eyes because she’s always wanted me to graduate."

Biography

Shilpa Shetty was born in Tamil Nadu, India, on June 8, 1975, to models, Surendra Shetty and Sunanda Shetty.

At the age of 15 she followed in her parents footsteps and signed up to a modelling agency with the goal of becoming a ramp model.  However at the age of 17 she took her first steps on to the silver screen when she was offered the leading role in the film Gaata Rahe Mera Dil opposite Rahul Roy. Sadly the film never got completed and was stalled, but she went on to accept a role in Baazigar, opposite Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. This became a super hit and Shilpa earned a Filmfare nomination for Best New Comer.

Following her initial success, Shilpa wasn’t so lucky on the movie side of business and her next two films flopped. It wasn’t until Main Khiladi Tu Anari that she caught the eye of Bollywood. Her solo song featured in the movie propelled her to fame and she quickly became the hottest thing in India.

After more unlucky production choices and more flops, Shilpa finally sealed her fate in celebrity-dom and redefined herself as a quality actress as well as a Bollywood beauty when she signed to appear in Phir Milenge. The movie dealt with the subject of HIV/AIDS and Shilpa’s character was HIV positive. For this role she earned praise from the Giant International Award and Indo-Pak’s Young Achiever.

Since then she has gone onto star in a number of successful hits, has become an AIDS activist and represents PETA in India.

Her most recent escapade, as a contestant in Celebrity Big Brother, has brought her international fame as well as sparking a global discussion on racism in the modern world.
