Stella gets her move on - 09/08/02
She recently got engaged and now she’s packing up and leaving life in Notting Hill, the time has come where her three story £1.5 million house is two small, instead the Gucci designer is buying an enormous £7million five storey town house in Belgravia.

Stella, who is said to be extremely broody, (understandable considering all her best mates are up the duff, Kate, Sadie and Sharleen) wants a home she can fill with kids. Stella, has had her fair share of troubles with local planning permission at her Notting Hill home, by constructing an outdoor shower on the roof. Her local Belgravia set may well get just as upset as Stella, plans to do exactly the same on the roof of her new place.

Stella to tie the knot - 31/07/02
If the rumours are to be believed Stella McCartney is to follow in her dad’s footsteps by getting hitched this year. According to the New York Post, Stella is planning to marry her boyfriend of one-year, Wallpaper publisher Alasdhair Willis. Alasdhair reportedly popped the question last weekend and Stella instantly accepted, The question is will her new step-mum Heather Mills be involved in the wedding, considering Stella is reported to hate her guts.

Stella shows her support - 12/06/02
The wedding of Sir Paul McCartney to Heather Mills finally took place yesterday, after heavy speculation, in Castle Leslie, County Monaghan, Ireland. Macca’s family were all in attendance including daughter Stella who is reportedly against the marriage. Whatever she is secretly feeling, she gave her blessing publicly by attending on the day. Heather Mills designed her own dress (Its not like Stella would do it!!), a £5000 cream lace fitted dress, the couple released only one picture of their day, they turned down a £1.5million pay cheque for coverage of the wedding.

Stella plans to bulldoze - 7/05/02
Stella McCartney is making herself popular around the neighbourhood again - she has revealed plans to demolish the 100-year-old church in Golborne Road. Stella purchased the church late last year to turn it into studios to act as a base for her work as fashion designer for Gucci. The plans she has submitted to Kensington and Chelsea council involve bulldozing the building and building a modern studio complex with flat above. Apparently the council has received complaints from residents about the plans. This isn’t the first run-in Stella has had with local residents, and comes hot on the heels of another furor about her rooftop shower (see story below.)

Stella’s rooftop shenanigans - 08/04/02
A new addition to Stella McCartney’s rooftop has been getting under the skin of some Notting Hill residents this month. Young Macca has been developing her Notting Hill abode with the addition of a rooftop terrace - which the neighbours have been describing as ’ramshackle’, ’bulky’ or ’something a rough sleeper might stay in.’ The construction has been surrounded by a 6ft high fence and it is expected that the local authority will demand that it is removed. Clifford W & RC Shirmplin have been employed by Stella and submitted new plans to the council a fortnight ago.

Stella goes all Indian - 11/01/02
As we are all well aware, old Macca girl Stella has purchased a disused church in the Golborne area and has plans to convert it into workspace by investing a hefty £1 million.

Biography

Stella McCartney was born in 1972, the daughter of ex-Beatle Sir Paul and Linda McCartney. She first hit the headlines herself in 1995, when she graduated from London’s Central St Martins College of Art & Design. Her graduation show, attended by her super-famous parents, featured pals Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss modelling her clothes on the catwalk.

Unsurprisingly, the student show became front page news around the world and the entire collection was snapped up by London boutique Tokio. She launched her eponymous label the same year. Despite her new-found celebrity, McCartney had already served a long apprenticeship in fashion. At 15, she worked with Christian Lacroix on his first couture collection and later spent several years learning her craft on Savile Row. McCartney was appointed chief designer at the French couture house Chloë in March 1997. Succeeding Karl Lagerfeld in one of the most high profile posts in the industry, McCartney’s appointment was viewed by many as simply an astute publicity stunt on the part of Chloë’s owners, the Vendome group. However, her first collection for the house, shown in Paris in October 1997, quickly dispelled any doubts about her talent. Sensual and romantic, the collection teamed lacy petticoat skirts with fine tailoring and was hailed a triumph. Her delicate camisoles and Nineties updates of the Seventies trousersuit fast became the talk of the catwalk circuit.

The following season, Chloë execs proved that her efforts had not only raised the house’s profile, but had lifted its profits too. Following her mother’s death in April 1998, Stella took up her fight against the maltreatment of animals. A month later, during Fur Fashion Week, she teamed up with PeTA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - to release a video championing animal rights. In April 2000, she renewed her contract with Chloë, amid reports that she had turned down the offer of a position at rival house Gucci, because Gucci would have required her to work with leather. She may have torn up the grey carpets of her new office in Paris to make it of a parquet-floored home away from home; but, to Stella McCartney, there really is no place like it.

In fact, rather than move entirely from her beloved studio-flat in London’s W11, the Chloë designer has merely upgraded to a £695,000 white stucco, four-floor family house with a miniature roof terrace down the road. Her vibe is undeniably west London. Written in 2000
