Sting: Naomi's a powerful woman - Sept 21 2007
Sting and his wife Trudie Styler have revealed that they agreed to Naomi Campbell's request for them to compere at the Fashion For Relief catwalk show because the supermodel is so "powerful". see photos
The celebrity couple joked that they couldn't refuse to take part in the event to raise funds for the victims of the Gloucestershire floods.
Rocker Sting, 55, said: "Well she's a pretty powerful woman, you don't say no to Naomi. She's bigger than us!"
Trudie, 53, said she and Sting wanted to get involved in the charity show to support the flood victims and "encourage people to dig deep, empty their pockets and buy some rocks and frocks on eBay".
The event, which saw the likes of Christian Slater and Big Brother twins Sam and Amanda strut their stuff down the catwalk, was the perfect way to end London Fashion Week, said Trudie.
"England's very proud of its fashion with very good reason. We've come from being nowhere on the map to being in real competition with the French houses and Milan.
"I think that to fundraise along with these beautiful women and beautiful dresses is a very appropriate way to end fashion week in England and we're proud to be here," she said.
Trudie’s anger over tribunal - May 10 2007
Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, said a tribunal’s ruling that they discriminated against their pregnant chef was an "unjust and unfair attack" on them.
The celebrity couple is facing the prospect of paying out substantial damages to Jane Martin after she won her sexual discrimination case against them.
A judgment from a Southampton employment tribunal said Trudie’s treatment of the 41-year-old chef was "shameful".
But in a statement the producer and actress said: "I am devastated that the tribunal’s judgment makes this unjust and unfair attack on Sting and me.
"It does not, we believe, reflect the facts which were put before the hearing and we will be appealing.
"Jane Martin was always treated well and generously as an employee and we remain stunned at her actions and at the verdict of the tribunal."
The Winchester-born chef was employed by the couple for eight years, cooking for people such as Madonna and Sir Elton John.
But she claimed to the tribunal that things started to go wrong when she became pregnant in 2005, and that Trudie was unhappy when she took time off work.
Trudie was alleged to have said: "Who the f*** does she think she is? She’s my chef in the UK. She needs to be available if I need her, or she should rethink her position."
Staff from the couple’s management company, Lake House Estate, which employed her, said she would be made redundant, but the process was unlawful. The tribunal panel said Trudie was behind the dismissal.
