Cheryl Cole
- Profession: Singer
- Place/Date of Birth: Newcastle upon Tyne, 30 June 2020
Cheryl told OK! magazine: "At first I laughed my head off because the suggestion was so ridiculous.
"But Ashley wasn’t laughing. It wasn’t very nice for either of us, but it certainly wasn’t a good time for him.
"But I was there for him when people had a go at him in the street or asked if he was gay."
According to the Daily Star, the Love Machine singer continued: "To be honest it’s more devastating for me than it is for him because I love him and I know what he’s going through. I don’t want to see him hurt."
Cheryl slams WAGs - Dec 14 2006
For a girl who is married to a footballer, Cheryl Cole certainly has a lot to say about WAGs.
The brunette singer, who tied the knot with England star Ashley Cole this year, told The New Statesman magazine that footballers’ wives are as bad as "benefit scroungers".
She’s also disgusted that so many girls aspire to be WAGs.
"They make it look really glamorous. You can go out and sit on your a*** and have all the jewels you want," she ranted.
"It’s a joke. These women have nannies, they don’t cook a meal for their husbands, they don’t clean, they have all the handbags they want but never do a day’s work.
"What kind of aspiration is that? Footballers’ wives are just as bad as benefit scroungers, it’s just a higher class of scrounger."
Slamming WAGs seems to be a growing trend.
Just this week Charlotte Church - who is dating rugby hunk Gavin Henson - said she "can’t stand" footballers’ wives and girlfriends.
She insisted WAGs, whose most prominent ambassadors include former Posh Spice Victoria Beckham and Coleen McLoughlin, shouldn’t be compared to rugby players’ girlfriends because they’re "too showy".
"We’re so not like the football WAGs - I’d never be like that. I can’t stand the way they are. They are far too showy," she told Reveal magazine.
Sexy Cheryl - Oct 10, 2020
WAG beauty Cheryl Tweedy has been named the hottest woman in showbiz. The brunette singer, who has been a lads’ mag fave since shooting to fame in Girls Aloud, beat a host of stunning stars to take the top spot in the More magazine poll.
Men aged between 18 and 34 were asked to name their most fancied female celebrities, as part of the magazine’s annual man survey.
Cheryl, who is married to footy star Ashley Cole, scooped 51% of the vote, coming in well above former queen WAG Victoria Beckham, who only managed to scrape into sixth place with 2% of the vote, "Posh was the tops but her time has been and gone," said a More spokeswoman. "Cheryl is now the queen of celebs and WAGS."
Other stars on the list included The Black Dahlia beauty Scarlett Johansson and supermodel Kate Moss, who took second and third place respectively. Glamour girl Jordan and Sarah Beeny rounded out the top five.

At the age of 16 Cheryl auditioned for the Royal Ballet Summer School in
Despite securing a place at the Royal Ballet School and getting distinctions for her dancing from the Royal Academy of Dancing, Cheryl wanted to sing so auditioned for Popstars: The Rivals - the rest, as they say, is history. Soon after hitting the number one spot with Sound of the Underground Cheryl was accused of Racially Aggravated Assault following an altercation in a nightclub toilet. She was sentenced to 120 hours of community service and accusations of racism has plagued her ever since.
In 2006 Cheryl married footballer Ashley Cole, a move which saw critics of both celebrities rubbing their hands in glee (it has been suggested that the marriage was one of convenience with both Cheryl’s rumoured racism and Ashley’s rumoured homosexuality cited). The wedding took place following the World Cup, a tournament during which Cheryl officialy joined the WAG collective. However she remains determined to remain more than just a footballer’s wife - the continuing success of Girls Aloud has so far seen to that.
