New direction for Guy - 19/12/02
Madonna seems to be influencing her hubby in more ways than one. Firstly she involves him in the dire film Swept Away (it bombed, big time!) and now it’s been revealed that Guy is currently working on doing a film about the Kabbalah.

The film will study the Jewish mysticism, called "The 49th Gate." (Madonna is a massive Kabbalah follower) Stick to what your best at Guy!

Guy sells part in his new movie for charity - 04/12/02

The cash raised will go to the: Guy has said, "It would be a crime for it to go at that price. The film is being shot in Los Angeles next spring and the prize includes return flights and two-nights accommodation in a hotel."

Guy Ritchie admits film is S*** - 14/11/02
Guy Ritchie told the prestigious Oxford Union on Tuesday night that his movie with the missus Swept Away will go straight to video in the UK because American critics have slammed it.

Guy said: "It won’t be released here because it’s s*** ". He added "It broke records in America. It must be the first film to make front-page news with a review. I think 21 papers in America ran a story on how appalling it was."

Judge for yourselves when Swept Away comes to a video store near you in the New Year.

Mockney gangster film director and Madonna’s spouse Guy Ritchie addressed the Oxford Union on Tuesday night.

Super Guy - 03/09/02

Guy Ritchie’s been talking about his relationship with Madonna’s daughter Lourdes. "She calls me Super Dad," he said. But Guy’s not trying to take her real father Carlos Leon’s place. "She’s got a good dad, he’s a good man. I get away with just being Super Dad." Courtesy of Heat Magazine

New show for TV devised by Guy Ritchie - 29/08/02
The show, which is currently called Swag, is described as a "cross between Police Camera Action and Trigger Happy TV."

It will feature reconstructions of dumb crimes and situations where members of the public are tempted to see if they are greedy enough to perform illegal acts.

Guy Ritchie came up with the idea for the show but he will not be involved in its production. Swag is expected to debut on Channel 5 next year.

Guy returns to his mockney gangster roots - 21/08/02

Guy Ritchie has obviously learnt his lesson and is going back to doing what he does best, directing a film about the London gangster underworld (yawn .).

His recent attempt to direct his wife in a romantic comedy ’Swept Away’ has apparently ended in disaster. Preview audiences have panned the ’couple stuck on a desert island together’ based film.

For Ritchie it’s a major glitch in his career and it looks very likely that it will be a straight to video film. Guy though has said that working with the missus was a "complete success, we are better off as a couple after it than we were before"

Guy’s latest project couldn’t be more different from Swept Away. Based on a book entitled Layer Cake, it will have a similar format to Ritchie’s 1998 blockbuster, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Biography

Guy Ritchie shot to fame after his film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels catapulted its way into cinemas in 1998. Millions of people flocked to see his depiction of the dodgy dealings of London gangsters, and it went on to become a multi-award winner, grossing £11.7m at the UK box office.

His second film, Snatch, also did well, taking £3m in its first weekend earlier this year, a record opening for an 18-rated film. The diamond-heist drama has so far grossed £12.3m in the UK and is soon to be released in the US. But, of course, it is not just Ritchie’s film successes that command the hundreds of column inches written about him each week. The 32-year-old’s marriage with pop icon Madonna and the birth of their son Rocco has caught the imagination of the public.

He began his career as a film runner in the UK in 1993, quickly progressing to directing music promos for bands and commercials by 1995. The money he made from this enabled him to direct his first film - Hard Case, a 20-minute short and after meeting his producing partner Matthew Vaughn, the two formed SKA Films. They went on to make Lock Stock, and two years later Snatch was released.

Ritchie also spotted the acting potential in footballer Vinnie Jones, who terrified opponents on the field with his crunching tackles.

He is now working on a 17th Century civil war action drama, which is slated for production in 2001.

He spent much of his childhood at Loton Park, in Shropshire, the 17th century home of his baronet stepfather.

Ritchie was born in Hatfield in Hertfordshire in 1968. His parents divorced when he was five, and he went to live with his mother, Amber, who was a model, and her new husband, Sir Michael Leighton, until she divorced again when he was 12.

It is reported that his severe dyslexia meant he attended a total of 10 schools, and left with one GCE in film studies. He got a job at Island Records, before pursuing his interest in film-making.
