Lee smashes own live solo gig record - Oct 29 2007
Comedian Lee Evans has smashed the record for staging the biggest live solo comedy gig.
Lee, 43, sold 15,000 seats for his stand-up show at the 02 - the first comedy gig to be held in the Arena - in under an hour.
The comic, who appeared in the film There's Something About Mary, broke his own 2005 Guinness World Record, achieved when he performed in front of 10,108 people in Manchester.
He said: "It's amazing and I'm so pleased by how well it's all gone so far.
"The O2 is the biggest venue I'll have played so it's pretty daunting, but I can't wait to get back out on tour again.
"Being on stage and performing live is where I get the biggest buzz so I'm really looking forward to it all."
The 02 Arena gig is part of Lee's 18-date UK tour next year.
West End Lee - April 04
Lee Evans is to star in Mel Brookes’ The Producers in London’s West End.
The Bristol funny man will star alongside screen legend Richard Dreyfus in the award winning production. He will play accountant Leo Bloom, who helps devise a deliberately bad musical as a moneymaking scheme. The show will open to the public in November at the Theatre Royal.
Oh Brother - Jan 04
Lee Evans will star as the brother of fellow comedian Johnny Vegas, in a new film about darts.
Yes you heard correctly, darts. Johnny Vegas will be the main man, a member of a pub darts team that take it all the way to the world championship. Considering Lee’s previous film roles, I presume he will play the gangly brother who is always tripping over something, possibly pouring pints down himself and tripping over the ockey.
The film is described as a cross between King Pin and The Full Monty.
Lee Evans latest offering - 05/11/02
Bristol born Lee Evans has recently finished filming Plots With a View (co-starring Christopher Walken and Brenda Blethyn) for Autumn release in the UK and the Hollywood movie Highbinders, with martial arts king Jackie Chan, due for release in 2003.

After leaving art school, Lee spent six years touring clubs all across the British Isles and, eventually, on what became the alternative comedy circuit, gaining a regular weekly spot at London’s famous Comedy Store.
In early Spring 2001, Lee hit the UK TV screens with the BBC 1 sitcom Lee Evans - So What Now? in which he starred and co-wrote. Lee was nominated as Most Popular Comedy Performer at The National Television Awards 2001 for his portrayal of the hapless accident-prone character.
Lee’s rise to stardom has been meteoric. In 1995 he won the Perrier Comedy Award and in 1995 moved into films. Movies to date include Brooms, Clare de Lune, Funny Bones, The Fifth Element, Mouse Hunt, and There’s Something About Mary. Funny Bones in particular has won critical acclaim as a fine British film.
The funny man is settled in Southend with the missus and his young daughter, with no plans to move to America.
