Movie director Julien Temple told BBC Radio 4’s Film Programme that the rock legend had taken the drastic steps in 1981 while filming scenes for Fitzcarraldo.
He said: "It involved putting bamboo over the male member and filling it with stinger bees so the member attained the size of the bamboo. Mick spent months in the jungle in Peru. He was going mad out there I think."
Last week one of the star’s old flames, Janice Dickinson, told Jonathan Ross that the singer has "a very small penis".
It hasn’t stopped him giving satisfaction - the 63-year-old has seven children with four different women and is rumoured to have slept with thousands more.
Mick engaged again? - May 17 2007
Could Mick Jagger could be set to wed for a third time, after his girlfriend L’Wren Scott was recently spotted sporting a huge rock on her engagement finger?
The pair, who have been together five years, have fuelled rumours of a wedding after the stylist flashed the dazzling ring at a party in New York, the Daily Mail reports.
But a friend of the Rolling Stones frontman said he wasn’t the type to go public with any marriage plans: "Mick’s really not the sort to have some kind of engagement. If they were going to get married they would probably just do it."
The friend added: "It is interesting that L’Wren has on this occasion - a very public event in New York - decided to wear a ring on her engagement finger so obviously.
"If they are not engaged then they are certainly happy for the world to think they are. They are both savvy enough to realise what speculation such a pose may attract."
The 63-year-old singer has recently invested a lot of time and thousands of pounds in refurbishing the couple’s £6 million London home.
A spokesman for Mick last night insisted the couple have no plans to marry.
Mick gives up on ’boring’ memoirs - April 27 2007
Mick Jagger has given up on writing his autobiography, saying he finds looking back on his life boring.
You’d think that after 40 years of a rock’n’roll lifestyle, the 63-year-old would enjoy looking back on his decades of excess.
But he told The Sun the tedium of living in the past wasn’t worth the cash he was being paid.
"I was offered a large sum of money, which I found very tempting and I started writing," said the Rolling Stones frontman. "I was sitting around talking endlessly about the past, living in it. And I found it rather dull."
Fans eager to learn more about Sir Mick’s life may still get the chance though, just as long as he can find an interesting way to tell his story.
"I’d love to find another form to do it in," he added. "A book form, but not in the accepted showbiz memoir."

Jagger had 10th ’most expensive star divorce’ - April 16 2007
Jerry Hall’s estimated settlement from Mick Jagger has come last in a list of the top 10 most expensive celebrity divorces.
Forbes magazine has scoured press reports, interview transcripts, and where possible, court documents to research the estimated payouts.
The magazine, famous for its "most powerful" list, believes the model won 15-25 million dollars when she filed for divorce in 1999 after the Rolling Stone fathered a Brazilian model’s child.
Mick, worth an estimated 325 million dollars at the time according to Forbes, challenged the legality of their Balinese wedding.
The divorce topping the list is basketball legend Michael Jordan’s, estimated to stretch to "possibly more than 150 million dollars".

With hits including Paint It Black, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Jumpin Jack Flash and It’s Only Rock and Roll the Stones are arguably the greatest band on earth with more than four decades of hits somewhere between their snake hips and the things holding their trousers up.
Mick’s private life is probably as legendary, if not as successful, as his music career. From his well recorded dalliances with Marianne Faithfull and Sophie Dahl to marriages to Bianca Moreno de Macias and Jerry Hall plus rumours of flings with the likes of Uma Thurman, Carly Simon and even David Bowie and the surely almost record breaking seven children by four different women (including model Elizabeth and designer Jade) the rocker’s sex appeal is obviously quite something....it must be those famous lips.
