’Tireless’ Stones announce new tour - Mar 23 2007
The Rolling Stones have announced their 2007 summer European tour - with Mick Jagger saying: "I never get tired."
The ageing rockers are headlining the Isle of Wight festival, bringing back memories for fans who saw the band at the holiday resort’s town hall in 1964.
The band’s spokesman said the Isle of Wight gig was the Stones’ first UK festival - but the band did perform at Knebworth in 1976.
A Bigger Bang plays more than 20 shows across Europe after kicking off in June in Belgium.
Frontman Jagger, 63, made the announcement in a press call from London transmitted over the internet.
Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts will play two UK dates - at the Isle of Wight on Sunday June 10 and the 02 Arena, formerly the Millennium Dome, on August 21.
A concert in Dublin has been scheduled for August 18, while other gig locations include St Petersburg and shows in Serbia and the Ukraine for the first time.
Jagger, who works out and performs breathing exercises before taking to the stage, said: "I never get tired."
"I have a very definite countdown before the show where I have time to relax, get dressed, warm up."
He joked of Richards, also 63, who fell out of tree while on holiday in Fiji: "I’ll nail him to the nearest room. I don’t think he will be climbing any palm trees."
Jagger to make film with Scorsese - Mar 1 2007
Fresh from his success at the Oscars, legendary director Martin Scorsese has agreed to make Mick Jagger’s dreams come true - and direct a film based on the rocker’s idea.
The singer came up with the original idea for The Long Play and took it to the filmmaker, whose hits include Goodfellas and Raging Bull.
The pair have been developing the movie, which is set in the music business and covers more than three decades, for several years.
The Long Play will be scripted by Bill Monahan, who wrote The Departed - the film that won Marty his first best director Oscar on Sunday night. The crime drama also took home the prize for best picture.
Mick, who previously worked with Marty on a concert documentary about the Stones, will produce.
This is not the singer’s first foray into the movie business.

With hits including Paint It Black, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Jumpin Jack Flash and It’s Only Rock and Roll the Stones are arguably the greatest band on earth with more than four decades of hits somewhere between their snake hips and the things holding their trousers up.
Mick’s private life is probably as legendary, if not as successful, as his music career. From his well recorded dalliances with Marianne Faithfull and Sophie Dahl to marriages to Bianca Moreno de Macias and Jerry Hall plus rumours of flings with the likes of Uma Thurman, Carly Simon and even David Bowie and the surely almost record breaking seven children by four different women (including model Elizabeth and designer Jade) the rocker’s sex appeal is obviously quite something....it must be those famous lips.
