Ewan to host Burns supper - Jan 24 2007
Hollywood star Ewan McGregor is to host a star-studded Burns supper where celebrity guests will wash down their haggis with Irn-Bru.
Paul McCartney and daughter Stella, and Rod Stewart and his partner Penny Lancaster are among the stars expected to attend the charity event in London’s Covent Garden tomorrow.
Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri and Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover have also been invited.
After washing down their haggis with a glass of Irn-Bru, each guest will receive a specially made glass bottle featuring a portrait of Scotland’s national bard.
The annual supper raises funds for cancer charity Clic Sargent and the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (Chas).
Pipe band the Red Hot Chilli Pipers will entertain the guests.
The band was formed in 2002 to help its five members pay their fees at Glasgow’s Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
But they have since toured the globe and even appeared on the main stage at T in the Park.
Piper Stuart Cassells said: "We’re looking forward to showing them what the bagpipes can really do. We’ve got some rock & roll up our sleeves for them.
"We are hoping we might pick up some work from Rod Stewart for his forthcoming wedding."
Joady Horsley, of Irn-Bru makers Barr, said: "The Chas and Clic Sargent Burns supper is the most high-profile in the UK and we’re proud that its guests will be washing down their haggis with the country’s other national drink."
Sharleen’s silence - Jan 07
Sharleen Spiteri has been warned by doctors to keep the noise down or risk losing her voice for good.
The Texas singer has reportedly developed blisters on her vocal chords whilst on tour, a condition which could see the end of her career. Sharleen has told press that she won’t be back in the studio until at least March and in the meantime is writing songs and keeping very quiet.
’There are a whole list of things I’m not allowed to do. When I read my daughter Misty her bedtime story, I’m not allowed to slouch. I have to sit upright with my back against the wall’ she explains. Joss Stone is also currently recovering from the same problem and Sharleen has been warned that as long as she doesn’t follow in the footsteps of Julie Andrews, whose career was ruined when she had similar blisters removed, the condition is treatable.
Texas star has split from her long-term boyfriend - Sept 05

The sexy singer has been living apart from Ashley Heath for the past year, but they kept their separation secret for the sake of their three-year-old daughter, Misty Kyd. Sharleen’s publicist, William Rice, said: "Sharleen and Ashley have been living apart since last year. "Their number one priority is the happy and safe upbringing of their three-year-old daughter."

The band’s debut hit I Don’t Want A Lover, in 1989, promised great things for Sharleen and co, however despite debut album Southside selling well the two follow ups failed to give Texas anything like the success they were expecting. Approached by Ellen DeGenres they recorded the theme to her US sitcom, however it was not until 1997 that Texas again found chart success. The single Say What You Want became their biggest single yet while their album White On Blonde entered the charts at number one, providing hits in the shape of Halo and Black Eyed Boy.
The nineties continued well, the band’s fifth album The Hush was another huge success, while singles In Our Lifetime, Summer Son and Inner Smile were all instant hits. A greatest hits compilation followed, cementing Texas as one of the biggest bands of the decade.
In 2003 the band changed direction with the release of Carnival Girl. Failing to find its feet the single seemed to mark the end of Texas’ popularity.
Sharleen has one daughter, Misty Kyd, with ex boyfriend Ashley Heath.
