The Handy Squad Survey: London's Diminishing DIY Skills
Are we a nation of dim wits when it comes to DIY? Does the simplest of tasks at home cause an outbreak of sweat or hair tugging? Well, according to a survey conducted by The Handy Squad , 81% of their residential customers would require the saving grace of a handyman because they couldn’t ‘do the job themselves’.
Forget the mundane excuse of ‘not having the time’ the results from The Handy Squad revealed that although 60% of all respondents could wire a plug, only 52% could do so correctly, meaning one in ten plugs may be wired incorrectly… (And for those who are not DIY savvy that would be mean placing the green/yellow wire in the middle of the plug). Meanwhile, 88% of all respondents said they felt confident that they could hang a picture, yet half of the calls The Handy Squad receive are from customers who have botched up the job.
Rob Roscoe, Director of The Handy Squad, said: “There is a trend of people thinking they can do the job, but finding out half way through that they can’t. It’s worrying to think that over 200,000 DIY accidents occur every year in the UK – people should think more carefully before attempting a job if they are not 100% confident they can do it.”
