Curvaceous Fashion in Motion at the V&A; 26 October
2001
Walks at 1pm, 4pm and 6pm
The corset is celebrating a full-on revival with
the huge success of Moulin Rouge. See how Victorian underwear from
the V&A;'s extensive dress collection inspired the designers of the
future in a Curvaceous Fashion in Motion at the V&A; on 26th October.
Curvaceous is an exciting collaboration between
the V&A; and Central Saint Martins students. As a competition, second
year 'Womenswear' BA design students were briefed to use corsets,
crinolines, bustles and brassieres from the V&A; collection, as a
springboard to create these innovative designs.
The gorgeous winning outfits will be modelled in
runway shows at 1pm, 4pm and 6.00pm on 26th October through the
galleries of the Museum. Designers including
Tom Ford, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen continue to use
figure-hugging corsets, artificial busts and fantastic frame-like
structures in their groundbreaking designs.
V&A; Dress Curators, Lucy Pratt and Suzanne Lussier
will be interviewing the Central Saint Martins fashion students,
as part of the Fashion Forum series, in the Dress Gallery at 2.30pm.
The designs are on display next to the underwear that inspired them
in the Dress Gallery until 7 January 2002.
