Art on Paper Fair, 2-5 Feb 2006 Event
Some days we feel a bit fed up of clever and
controversial art - we're not likely to be displaying blow up dolls 'that say
something' in our hall way or hanging elephant poo over the bed so what we
really want is a nice drawing or a pretty watercolour, it doesn't have to be
chintzy or feature rolling countryside but it does have to work in our humble
homes. Which is where the Art on Paper Fair comes in.
Taking place
annually at the Royal College of Art the fair specialises in watercolours,
drawings, original prints, posters and photography and the odd sculpture or
other unusual piece (all paper though, naturally). With mostly contemporary work
on offer, mainly British but with a European slant and a little bit of China and
Japan thrown in for good measure, this is an excellent way to support the arts
whilst also filling your home with lovely works. And you really could fill your
home.with works costing from as little as fifty pounds you'll be spoilt for
choice whether you're a keen collector or just on the lookout for something to
match that lovely rug you picked up last week, whether you've a mansion to fill
or think your studio flat's looking a bit bare.
Each year up and coming
artists are displayed and for sale alongside established names and this year is
no different with works and prints from the likes of Bridget Riley, Banksy and
Robert Indiana leading the way, closely followed by names you might not have
heard of before but might well be hearing again.
Combining art with
shopping is undoubtedly an excellent idea and in the unpretentious but
impressive atmosphere of the Royal College of Art the Art on Paper Fair is the
ideal way to dip your toes in and get accustomed to the world of buying as well
as pick up some information about how and what to look out for in the world of
the paintbrush and pencil.
