BBC Proms
July
15 – September 10, 2020
The annual BBC Proms is the biggest
classical music event on the UK calendar. Attended each year by millions of
immaculately dressed music fans it is broadcast live on television and radio for
those of us not lucky enough to have secured one of the much sought after
tickets. Although the Last Night of the Proms is the one big event that will
spring to mind, the two months which proceed this musical spectacular are
equally exciting and important.
This year the Proms are planned to be
more spectacular than ever before with not only the capital playing host to
great concerts but Belfast, Glasgow, Swansea and Manchester all getting in on
the act with fabulous Proms in the Park events, where you’ll be able to see
fabulous live classical concerts without the lengthy train journey.
The
great and the good of classical music, from Mozart to Monteverdi are represented
by the world’s most incredible musicians, orchestras, choirs and soloists.
Modern composers sit alongside the old masters with both deadly serious and
frivolous and fun music on offer for listeners of all ages and tastes.
An extensive programme includes performances from the BBC Concert
Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic and many more, there are also talks and
lectures giving you an insight in to the lives and working practices of
musicians and performances of musicals and operas from Wagner to Gilbert &
Sullivan.
Whether you choose to pick your favourite composer or
performers and make just one or two trips to the Royal Albert Hall or buy
tickets for exciting and unusual performances at any of the venues involved
you’ll be guaranteed a classic time, so buy your tickets, pick up your best
black tie from the dry cleaners and get ready for Britain’s number one classical
music event.
