Kensington Gardens is the setting for Kensington
Palace where Queen Victoria spent much of her childhood and where
Diana, Princess of Wales lived.
The park offers tree-lined avenues, extensive informal
flowerbeds, the Peter Pan statue and the Elfin Oak as well as The
Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground and a seven mile memorial
walk (which also goes through Hyde, Green and St James's Parks).
The Serpentine Gallery, independently run, specialises
in showing work by contemporary British and international artists.
