being held to commemorate the Golden Jubilee and opened to the public
on 1 May 2002. The wedding gowns on show are those worn by five

Highlights
of the exhibition are the wedding dress worn by Queen Elizabeth
The Queen Mother in 1923 and the dress worn by Princess Elizabeth
on her marriage to Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in 1947. HM The Queen's
dress was designed by Norman Hartnell and is embroidered with 10,000
seed pearls.
Nigel
Arch, director of Kensington Palace, said:
"Royal weddings have always been great national occasions. This
is particularly true of the weddings of the five queens whose dresses
we are showing at Kensington Palace this year. The exhibition will
be an opportunity to compare changing styles, to marvel at the intricate
lace work and to reflect on the past which the dresses recall. In
particular, we are delighted to be able to show, in this Golden
Jubilee year, the wedding dress of HM The Queen".
