Bjork is releasing her new single Hidden Place on
the 6th August. Hidden Place is accompanied by a very special video,
and we have exclusive extracts to preview. Vespertine (meaning "relating
to the night") is Bjork's first self-produced album comprising of
12 intricately crafted songs, which show a new, found maturity and
independence.
Bjork originally put the songs together on her laptop
and each encompasses a different range of emotions and features
the magical sounds of harp, celeste, clavichord, music box and choir.
Hidden Place is accompanied by a hypnotic one-frame/shot video,
which is a debut for directors Ineez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin
- primarily known as photographers.
The pair have also provided the beguiling sleeve
photograph for the album and single. Bjork has already started work
with Nick Knight and again, first time video director Eiko Ishioka,
on a series of videos, which will be released with each single from
the album.
The album's artwork is by the innovative French
designers M+M and features a series of line drawings and an etching
of the (by now) infamous swan, which made its first appearance at
this year's Oscars ceremony and launched the cruel headline 'dressing
in the dark' paraphrased from her award-winning Lars von Trier movie
Dancing in the Dark. Bjork is currently engaged in a number of exciting
projects. These include a recording with renowned composer John
Taverner called "Prayer For The Heart" and further recordings with
longtime associates The Brodsky Quartet. Following the huge success
of her Riverside Church Concert last month in Brooklyn, New York,
Bjork is rehearsing her live set and plans to perform at a number
of unusual venues around the world later this year.
Full tour dates will be announced on MyVillage shortly.
Following in the footsteps of
Radiohead, Bjork has released short internet adverts or blipverts
to promote the album. Click here for an exclusive preview of Blipvert

Vespertine is released through One Little Indian
Records on August 27.
