It was the latest in a string of confrontations that her bodyguards have been involved in since the star arrived in India last month to film parts of A Mighty Heart, a movie about murdered American journalist Daniel Pearl.

Brad Pitt, always the social activist, says he will not be marrying Angelina Jolie until the restrictions on just who can marry are dropped. "Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able," the 42-year-old actor says in Esquire magazine’s October issue, on US news-stands on September 19. In the article he reflects on "15 things I think everyone should know".

Though Shiloh, the world-famous daughter of Pitt and girlfriend/earth mother Jolie, hogged much attention on her birth in May, Pitt says he "cannot imagine life" without adopted children Maddox, five, and Zahara, one.

"They’re as much of my blood as any natural born, and I’m theirs," says Pitt. "That’s all I can say about it. I can’t live without them. So: Anyone considering (adoption), that’s my vote."

Pitt, who plays a world traveller in the upcoming drama Babel, subscribes to a laid-back parenting style. "I try not to stifle them in any way," he says. "If it’s not hurting anyone, I want them to be able to explore. Sometimes that means they’re quite rambunctious." He goes on: "I feel it’s really important to have that time to sit and talk to them.

"I really like that last minute before they fade off. And always give them a heads-up before you jerk them out of something. You need to tell them, like, ’You have three more minutes’."

Angelina Jolie reportedly offended Brad Pitt’s mother by drinking at son Maddox’s fifth birthday party. Brad’s family flew in from their hometown in Missouri to visit granddaughter Shiloh Nouvel but allegedly left early because they were unhappy with her behaviour at the party.

Angelina is said to have barely acknowledged Brad’s family and upset his mum, Jane, by having an open bar at the bash. Neither of Brad’s parents drink and they didn’t approve of Angelina drinking around her and Brad’s children and the other youngsters at the party.

A source told America’s Star magazine: "They were the only ones not drinking and it was uncomfortable for them. To Jane, drinking is unhealthy, and she thought Angelina was intoxicated. "Things were very tense that weekend, and they left with an even worse impression of Angelina than before. They think she is tactless and doesn’t consider other peoples feelings." The Pitt family allegedly cut their trip short after just two days, leaving on the day of the party.
