Babs has head knocked off? - May 24 2007
Barbara Windsor's waxwork was apparently beheaded by a soldier at a party.

The squaddie, who is thought to be from the same regiment as Prince Harry, was groping the wax figure at London's Madame Tussauds when the head fell off, reports The Sun.

The sculpture of the former EastEnder was apparently one of a dozen on display for a Household Cavalry party.

A source at the attraction is quoted by the paper as saying: "A lot of soldiers thought it would be a laugh to have their photo taken groping a waxwork of Barbara Windsor.

"But one of them took it a bit too far and snapped poor old Barbara's head off. We have no idea who did it but we want the damage paid for. It could have been worse. At least they didn't break off one of her knockers."

A Madame Tussauds spokesperson said: "Madame Tussauds does not disclose specific details of our events or clients; our award winning events division puts on hundreds of hugely successful events every year.

"It is always made clear in any contract undertaken the liabilities of party organisers and guests, and their responsibilities if damage does occur to any property owned by Madame Tussauds. Our figures cost £150,000 each and are valuable to our business."

Babs raves about Charles’ ’sex appeal’ - Mar 15 2007
Barbara Windsor has revealed she has a soft spot for the heir to the throne, praising the Prince of Wales’s "sex appeal".

The EastEnders star confessed to her long-held attraction after the two Windsors met at a Clarence House reception celebrating the work of Age Concern.

Former Carry On actress Babs was introduced alongside Tess Daly, Gloria Hunniford and Fiona Phillips - and told Charles they were all his "blondes for the day".

She declared afterwards: "I said, ’We’re your blondes for the day’. He said, ’Yes you’ve got to have the blondes’.

"He’s got a great sense of humour. He’s so attractive. He’s got a lot of sex appeal. I’ve always thought that. Ask my husband. He’s the only royal I’ve got a photo of in my house."

Charles was without his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, who is resting after undergoing a hysterectomy.

The actress added: "We asked how his wife was and he said she’s fine."

Tess, presenter of Strictly Come Dancing, revealed how the Prince wanted to learn the tango.

"We had a little chat about dancing. I think he really enjoys the thought of learning a bit of ballroom and the latin dances.

"He said he always fancied learning the tango.

"We were talking about how the generations interact. I think that’s something he’s very keen on."

EastEnders actress in fall - Nov 20 2006
The cast of EastEnders know their alter egos have to face all manner of ups and downs, but veteran star Barbara Windsor proves even the actors can have bad luck.

According to The Sun, the bubbly blonde was collecting her breakfast from the canteen when she fell, fracturing her wrist and spraining her ankle.

A spokesperson for the soap said: "Barbara Windsor is in a splint for the next couple of weeks. The surgeon will then decide whether she needs to wear a cast."

Happily, the bump hasn’t stopped the star from getting on with the business of filming scenes for Pauline Fowler’s (Wendy Richard) funeral.

Biography

Despite the fact the it is with the Carry On series that Barbara Windsor is most associated, she only appeared in 9 of the 30 films. Ms Windsor was born Barbara-Ann Deeks on 6 August 2020 in Shoreditch, the only child of a London bus driver and a dressmaker, and in her early years the family moved to Hackney. Babs attended Our Lady at Stamford Hill in Hackney but apparently got thrown out. Barbara’s mother was her driving force, sending her child to elocution lesson as she had ambitions for Barbara as a telephone operator. But Barbara chose showbiz and never looked back.

However disappointed Mrs Deeks may have been, she was generous enough to finance young Barbara’s place at the Ada Foster acting school. There, Barbara excelled and won her first acting role at 12 where she played on of the babes in a pantomime. She was spotted by producer Joan Littlewood who, anxious to maintain the use of working class actors, gave her the part of Rosie in Fings Ain’t What They Used To Be.

Her film career started with The Belles Of St Trinian’s in 1954 and it was while she had the starring role in her eighth film, the 1963 Sparrows Can’t Sing, that Peter Rogers saw her and offered her the part of Daphne Honeybutt in Carry On Spying. National recognition followed along with TV and stage roles galore. Barbara made use of her curvaceous figure to emphasise her Carry On characters; she lost her nightgown and, later, her bikini top in Camping; was stripped practically naked by a nervous Sid James in Abroad and gave a full frontal view of her bosom in her last Carry On film, Dick.

In the late 1970s she was tabloid fodder because of her relationship with gangster Ronnie Knight and various younger lovers, but in 1994 she finally achieved a lifelong ambition when she joined the cast of TV soap opera Eastenders as Peggy Butcher (the mother of the Mitchell brothers), a role she still plays today. Barbara Windsor lives in Marylebone, with her hubby Scott.
