Cheeky Girls 'killed' in TV show - April 3 2007
The Cheeky Girls will be "kidnapped and murdered" as part of a new spoof reality TV show - and their mum Margit thinks the show is "genius".
The stunt will see the duo gunned down after filming their new video in Greece - and two unsuspecting British tourists, who thought they were going to work as holiday reps, will be framed for the crime.
What the victims of the hoax don't know is that the "killing" is just a joke for new show called Killing The Cheeky Girls.
"The programme shows genuine human reactions to difficult situations - it's much more exciting than watching Big Brother. The person who came up with the idea is a genius," the girls' mum Margit said.
The filmmaker and actor Alki David - who masterminded the dubious stunt - is now looking for a broadcaster to buy the footage.
He told the Daily Star: "All the people in the show were told at the end that is was an experiment. The Cheeky Girls were, of course, in on the act and were a joy to work with.
"The 'tour reps' have all signed release forms and are happy for the footage to be shown. They have said they'd do it all again. No one suffered."
Margit added: "It is a more adventurous, full of action reality show. It also gives Monica and Gabriela the opportunity to show what great actresses they are."
Opik speaks about Cheeky Girl romance - Jan 16 2007
Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik has said his relationship with Cheeky Girl Gabriela Irimia is "a meeting of minds".
The romance has raised eyebrows in Westminster and Opik admitted they are "the oddest couple in Britain".
But he told Hello! magazine: "Gabi is insightful, bright, sharp, challenging, very funny and pretty strong-minded. She challenges me intellectually, and she demands respect as a person just because of who she is.
"Our relationship is not based on lust - it’s primarily a relationship of intellect, a meeting of minds, and that I find really interesting and attractive."
Gabriela, 24, shot to fame with twin Monica and their 2002 hit The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum).
Opik, 41, was previously engaged to weather presenter Sian Lloyd, but he insisted she dumped him in October and claimed his new relationship didn’t start until November 27 at the Motor Neurone Disease Association annual ball.
The couple discuss their love affair across eight pages of Hello!
Opik said: "It wasn’t on my to-do list to date a Cheeky Girl. And I don’t see her as Cheeky Girl - I see her as Gabriela Irimia who really holds my emotional and mental attention."
The MP for Montgomeryshire said he had the backing of his party.
"My friends and colleagues have been very supportive... though they continue to sing the Cheeky Song to me in the corridors of power," he said.
He also denied claims by his ex-fiancee that he’s a heavy drinker and said reports that he’d intervened in a Cheeky Girls deportation row were "a big misunderstanding".
Cheeky mum stops wedding? - Jan 9 2007
It seems The Cheeky Girls’ mum Margit Irimia has put her foot down over Gabriela’s relationship with Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik.
She told Closer magazine: "Gabriela wants to get married straight away, but nothing will happen for six months. She and Lembit are very much in love. But I told them, ’stay together six months then come back and tell me if the sparkle is still there’. I said if they feel the same, they can take things further."
