Gareth Gates
- Profession: Singer
- Place/Date of Birth: Bradford, England, 13 July 2020
He is currently working on new tracks which he says ’will surprise fans’. Not so much as choosing to cover ’Spirit in the Sky’ though, Gareth!
But Gareth will not leave pop too far behind him, he just wants to ditch the cheese. He said ’I want to move away from pop - well, not pop as a whole but I want to get away from the cheesy side of it."
Does anyone else smell Cheddar?
Gareth’s Girl? - 10/02/03
A 27-year-old dancer is the latest lady that has reportedly caught our Gareth’s roaming eye.
Gareth met Suzanne Mole at the Record Of The Year 2002 awards in December and has said that "I’ve been seeing Suzanne on and off since the beginning of the year. It’s not serious - but I have been seeing her."
Hmm - don’t get too comfy Suzanne love - ’not serious’ and ’seeing each other on and off’ when they only met in December doesn’t bode well for a long term relationship.!
Best British single x2? - 15/01/03
Kensington resident Gareth Gates has been nominated twice for the Best British single award at The Brits - perhaps his voters stuttered too.
The Brit awards this year are dominated by an original, urban rap sound that the charts appeared to be missing for the majority of last year. Artists like Ms Dynamite and The Streets have four nominations apiece, and pop’s prince and princess Robbie Williams and Kylie barely get a mention this year. Until enter Gareth.
Gareth and his Pop Idol buddy Will are both nominated for best British Pop act and Best British single so its up to them to keep the pop music’s dream alive this year.
The winners will be announced on 20th February and will be on ITV later that night.
Gareth Gates to sing Comic Relief single - 06/01/03
Gareth Gates is to record this year’s official Comic Relief single. He will release the charity record in the run-up to Red Nose Day on March 14.
A spokeswoman for the charity confirmed Gareth had been chosen but no decision had been made yet on the choice of song. It has not yet been decided whether he will record a cover version or release a new track, or whether other stars will join him on the single.
The record is not Gareth’s only involvement with this year’s Comic Relief as we mentioned a couple of months ago, Gareth will be taking part in Celebrity Driving School.
Gareth’s Year - 19/12/02
Gareth Gates has won Record of the Year 2002 with his crooning version of Unchained Melody.
He beat fellow Pop Idol, Will Young, who took second place this time with his number one hit Evergreen.
Ant and Dec announced the winners of the TV poll after thousands of pop fans phoned and texted in their votes.

Gareth Gates wants to be more like Justin Timberlake - because he thinks his own music just isn’t cool enough. The spiky haired one says Justin’s album Justified is "amazing" and has given him "a lot of inspiration".
Gates to victory - 25/11/02
Gareth Gates has swept the board at the Smash Hits T4 Poll Winners Party yesterday. The 18-year-old scooped four awards, Best Male, Best Newcomer and Most Fanciable Male, while his spiky haircut won an award of its own.
