George: ’I don’t have drug problem’ - Oct 3, 2020
George Michael has denied he has a drug problem, a day after being found slumped at the wheel of a car for the second time.
The former Wham! star, who was cautioned for possession of cannabis following the incident at the weekend, also said he hadn’t been drinking.
"That’s the second time in a year I’ve been caught with an unused spliff in the motor. I had no drink or drugs in my body," he is quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying.
"I haven’t got a problem with drugs."
The 43-year-old was spotted apparently asleep in his car in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The singer was found by officers after worried motorists dialled 999 to report his vehicle was causing an obstruction at traffic lights in Cricklewood, north London.
He was arrested and was taken to hospital before being cautioned.
George, who has just started a world tour, was cautioned by police for possession of cannabis after being found in a similar state at Hyde Park Corner in February.
George in trouble again - Oct 2, 2020
Pop star George Michael has been found passed out in his car by police for the second time this year.
The 43-year-old was cautioned by police for possession of cannabis after he was found slumped over the wheel of his vehicle.
The singer was found by officers after worried motorists dialled 999 to report his car was causing an obstruction at traffic lights in Cricklewood, north London.
Scotland Yard confirmed that police arrested the driver on suspicion of being unfit to drive and for possession of what was believed to be cannabis.
He was taken to hospital before being cautioned for the drug offence and released on police bail pending further inquiries on his fitness to drive.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said the driver was "bailed to return at a date in November pending further inquiries on the allegation of being unfit to drive".
The arrest raised fresh fears over the health of the singer, who has just started a world tour.
His partner, Kenny Goss, told The Sun newspaper that Michael had nothing to say. He said: "He’s fine and I’ve got him a McDonalds."
George was cautioned by police for possession of cannabis after being found in a similar state at Hyde Park Corner in February.
At the time he issued a statement claiming it was "my own stupid fault as usual", and later penned a song inspired by the experience.
Go George! – July 2006
How does a shamed celebrity set the story straight (as it were) in today’s media obsessed society? Does one give an exclusive interview to the highest bidder? Take out an advert in the broadsheets? Stick two fingers up at the paps and done with? Well, if you’re George Michael defending your right to skulk around the bushes of Hampstead Heath you do it via the medium of high camp…a phone in with the King and Queen of daytime TV, Richard and Judy. The presenting tour de force were clearly delighted at being given the seal of approval from George, who ranted about his public image since being spotted picking up men in London’s premiere cruising spot. Well, if we had to sort out a thing or two in the public eye we’d pick the nation’s favourite Mum and Dad too.

Michael had hit after hit with Wham! - Club Tropicana, Wham Rap, Wake me Up Before You Go Go all remain classics, featuring on every best of the eighties compilation going. Whilst in Wham! George had solo success with one of his most famous hits, Careless Whisper.
When the mighty Wham! split in 1986 Michael found he had to prove himself to music critics who thought he was just another flash in the pan boy band reject. He did it easily with hit after hit, a duet with Aretha Franklin and a blue eyed soul boy image. In the nineties he kept the good work up, duetting with Elton John on Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me and in 1992 was announced to be one of the richest men in the UK thanks to incredible record sales.
But in the mid to late nineties things started to turn sour with George’s record label, Sony and despite producing one of the most successful albums of the decade with Older, he left Sony to create his own label - Aegean Records. A year later George hit the headlines after being arrested for committing ’lewd acts’ in a public toilet (you all know that story), forcing the singer to come out publicly.
Many thought it would be the end of his career, but the master of reinvention hit back with arguably his finest single to date, Outside. The video for his hit single featured the cheeky Greek dressed as a policeman gyrating about a disco-balled toilet, a great two fingers up to the press and police who had outed him. George has since played up his gayness, recently telling the world about his ’open relationship’ with boyfriend Kenny Goss and his ’Vanilla’ tastes in sex. In between revealing all he has become increasingly political, releasing slated single Freeeek!, an anti Iraq war song and using interviews to champion the causes close to his heart.
The ex Wham! star remains a force to be reckoned with even after announcing that he is bowing out of the music business to release his recordings online for free. Good news for skint George Michael fans, not so much for the industry.
