Marcelo Rodriguez was working undercover when he arrested Michael on suspicion of lewd conduct in a toilet at Will Rogers Memorial Park in Beverly Hills in 1998.
He sued Michael in 1999, claiming the singer said in magazines and on television that Rodriguez was "waving his genitals in front of (Michael)."
Michael pleaded no contest to a charge of committing a lewd act and was fined $810 (?540) and ordered to perform 80 hours of community service.
George Michael burgled - 18/02/02

George was in Los Angeles when his ?3 million property was broken into on Saturday February 9th. The thieves made off with jewellery and other items worth ?100,000 despite a sophisticated security system. To top it all, it seems the burglars made their getaway in George’s ?80,000 Aston Martin DB7 although the car has now been recovered.
George Michael has been cruising since he was a teenager - July 28, 2020
George Michael has been "cruising" for casual gay sex since he was a teenager. The ’Fast Love’ singer - who was caught coming out of London’s Hampstead Heath last week after having gay sex with a 58-year-old jobless van driver - has admitted his habit of prowling known gay haunts for public sex thrills started in his younger years.
He is quoted in the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: "I’ve been doing this on and off for years since I was a teenager." However, despite his apparent appetite for casual sex, Michael insists he doesn’t worry about his health or safety. He added: "I have never once seen any violence. If I want to see violence, or what I call shameful behaviour, I could go to a club where women these days have to hold their hand over their drink for fear of being drugged."
Michael, who claims his partner of 10 years Kenny Goss has no problem with him cruising for sex, also insisted he was not embarrassed about his actions. He said: "I have not cheated or lied about my sex life to anybody in my life."
George insists Kenny doesn’t mind - July 26, 2020
George Michael insists lover Kenny Goss doesn’t mind him having gay sex with strangers. The singer, who was caught engaged in sex acts with a jobless van driver on London’s Hampstead Heath last week, insists Goss accepts his promiscuous behaviour.
Michael also refused to apologise for his actions during a phone interview with British TV chat show hosts Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan yesterday (25.07.06). He said: "I’ve got no issue with cruising. I’ve talked about it many times. It’s never been an issue between us. "We had a lovely tenth anniversary party. My present to him was a million quid so I think I should get away with so-called fooling around with ’Bernard Manning’. I’ve no idea who that guy was but thank-you very much, whoever he was."
Reports had suggested that Goss had cancelled the couple’s upcoming ’wedding ’, but the ’Fast Love’ singer insists the pair’s civil ceremony is still on and will happen once the interest in his private life has calmed down. Michael explained: "We knew with all the rubbish between us that we couldn’t get a private wedding, so we have postponed it. "I don’t want people to think my life is troubled when it’s not. I’m a man who has been successful for 25 years." He added: "There can’t be shame unless the people involved are ashamed and I ’m certainly not that."

Michael had hit after hit with Wham! - Club Tropicana, Wham Rap, Wake me Up Before You Go Go all remain classics, featuring on every best of the eighties compilation going. Whilst in Wham! George had solo success with one of his most famous hits, Careless Whisper.
When the mighty Wham! split in 1986 Michael found he had to prove himself to music critics who thought he was just another flash in the pan boy band reject. He did it easily with hit after hit, a duet with Aretha Franklin and a blue eyed soul boy image. In the nineties he kept the good work up, duetting with Elton John on Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me and in 1992 was announced to be one of the richest men in the UK thanks to incredible record sales.
But in the mid to late nineties things started to turn sour with George’s record label, Sony and despite producing one of the most successful albums of the decade with Older, he left Sony to create his own label - Aegean Records. A year later George hit the headlines after being arrested for committing ’lewd acts’ in a public toilet (you all know that story), forcing the singer to come out publicly.
Many thought it would be the end of his career, but the master of reinvention hit back with arguably his finest single to date, Outside. The video for his hit single featured the cheeky Greek dressed as a policeman gyrating about a disco-balled toilet, a great two fingers up to the press and police who had outed him. George has since played up his gayness, recently telling the world about his ’open relationship’ with boyfriend Kenny Goss and his ’Vanilla’ tastes in sex. In between revealing all he has become increasingly political, releasing slated single Freeeek!, an anti Iraq war song and using interviews to champion the causes close to his heart.
The ex Wham! star remains a force to be reckoned with even after announcing that he is bowing out of the music business to release his recordings online for free. Good news for skint George Michael fans, not so much for the industry.
