Fame for Steps' Ian - May 8 2007
Every actor chases fame - but for Ian Watkins, who's been trying to shake off his 'H from Steps' tag since Celebrity Big Brother, it's finally in his grasp as he takes to the West End stage.

The singer is playing actor-turned-student Nick in the new production of Fame: The Musical for a limited summer season - with the new run coinciding with his birthday today.

He'll be starring alongside Natalie Casey as Serena, Natalie Kennedy as Carmen, Desi Valentine as Tyrone, Fem Belling as Mabel, George Maguire as Joe, Matthew James as Schlomo, Danielle Cato as Iris, Jacqui Dubois as Miss Sherman, Emma Francis as Miss Bell, Phil Cole as Mr Sheinkopf, and Michael Gyngell as Mr Meyers.

Fame marks the singer's second West End appearance - he played the lead role in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in 2004.

But it's his first performance since going back to college to train in musical theatre, documented in Channel 4's H-Side Story

The show, conceived and developed by David DeSilva, premiered in the West End in 1995. It follows the lives of a group of young performers who attend New York's High School For the Performing Arts.

Trio evicted from Big Brother house - Jan 28 2007
Former Miss Great Britain Danielle Lloyd and Jade Goody’s boyfriend Jack Tweed have been the first two housemates to be evicted in the final of Celebrity Big Brother.

The double eviction was a surprise for the housemates but not for the bookies, who had not offered odds on Jack winning and placed Danielle at 100/1.

They were followed by Ian Watkins, who came fourth in the final.

In her interview Danielle immediately apologised for her behaviour towards Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty in an interview with host Davina McCall.

Asked by Davina what she had learnt in the house, she said: "Not to be such a bitch."

Davina replied: "Good."

Biography

Best known as H from Steps, Ian Watkins originates from deep in the Welsh Valleys.

After the five-piece band split in 2001 he branched out with a solo career before enrolling on a musical Theatre course in London. The television programme ‘H Side Story’ charted his success and since his graduation he has appeared in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, plus panto in Preston.

He recently came out as gay, so perhaps his real claim to fame is being ‘the only gay in the village’!
