Sex scenes a nightmare, says James - Oct 10 2007
James McAvoy has apparently admitted that shooting sex scenes with Keira Knightley was "a nightmare".

The actor gets up close and personal with Keira in period flick Atonement, but he confessed that the steamier scenes weren't his favourite to film.

"Sex scenes are always a nightmare," the 28-year-old is quoted by Heat magazine as saying.

"It is never easy and it's always a little bit sweaty. When they call action, if you feel the lady's breast, it is your decision. It's like, this is wrong."

"We carried on and about 10 seconds later we just said sheepishly, 'Sorry about that'," added the star.

The film, based on the novel by Ian McEwan, is about a 13-year-old girl who accuses her older sister's (Keira) lover Robbie, played by James, of a crime that he didn't commit.

Directed by Joe Wright, Atonement is in UK cinemas now. http://www.atonementthemovie.co.uk/site/site.html

James ’very very pleased’ for Forest - Mar 6 2007
Becoming Jane actor James McAvoy says he’s delighted Forest Whitaker, his co-star in The Last King Of Scotland, picked up the best actor Oscar for his role as Idi Amin.

Speaking at the premiere of his latest flick, in which he plays Jane Austen’s love interest, the Scottish star said: "I’m very pleased for him. It would’ve been devastating for him if he hadn’t won it because everybody has been telling him he will win it for so long.

"I don’t think I would’ve been able to stand it if I hadn’t have won it had everyone told me for so long, so I’m very very pleased, very proud to be associated with him."

So did James think the film would win an Oscar from the start?

"You never dare to think that what you’re in is going to be received well," he said.

"I thought, ’This deserves an Oscar’, I think the whole film does and I think the director does as well and the writer and the director of production and everybody deserves Oscars for that film, but you don’t dare to think that it actually will get anybody to even see it.

"You make good films all the time and they never see the light of day, so no, I didn’t think about that kind of thing. But I was very certain that it was a great performance."

Last King director praises James McAvoy - Jan 13 2007
Director Kevin Macdonald has praised The Last King Of Scotland star James McAvoy’s performance - and says he deserved his Bafta nomination.

The 28-year-old, who was named rising star by Bafta last year, received a nomination for best supporting actor, one of five mentions for the acclaimed film about Idi Amin.

"It’s particularly pleasing to see James get much deserved recognition for his performance - which has so often been over-shadowed by Forest’s extraordinary turn as Idi Amin - a more obviously ’awards friendly’ part," said Kevin.

"And to be up there with such films as Little Miss Sunshine and The Departed for Best Film - well you couldn’t ask for a better compliment to this small British film."

He added: "I couldn’t be happier to see Last King get so many Bafta noms."
