Kate Winslet
- Profession: Actress
- Place/Date of Birth: Reading , 05 October 2020
’What If’ has been taken from the soundtrack of the animated film ’Christmas Carol’ in which Kate stars as Belle. Ms Winslet is believed to have allowed the track to be released only due to the fact that the proceeds would be given to two charities - the NSPCC and Sargeant Cancer Care for Children. Her spokesman Robert Garlock said she is not intending to launch a singing career (well decided Kate.)
The romantic ballad is ironically expected to enter the charts as Ms Winslet and her estranged husband enter the divorce courts.
Kate pulls out of Enigma premiere - 25/09/01
Kate Winslet pulled out of the premiere of her latest film just hours before its start, citing "recent personal events." Monday’s premiere of "Enigma," a World War II thriller about British code breakers, was to have been Winslet’s first official outing since she separated from her husband earlier this month.
"I feel that, for the sake of myself and my family, a short time out of the spotlight would be beneficial," said the 25-year-old actress, best known for her starring role in 1997’s "Titanic." She apologized for her absence. "I’m very sorry not to be there to celebrate the premiere of "Enigma", of which I’m very proud, and also to pay my respects to those lives lost in the recent tragedy in New York," she said in a statement.
Prince Charles and first-time producer Mick Jagger attended the opening along with most of the film’s cast and crew. Director Michael Apted dedicated the event to New Yorkers struggling to recover from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Jagger said Winslet wanted privacy. "She’s not afraid of terrorism, but she is afraid of the British press," he said. "She’s having a bit of a problem, I think, being in the limelight."
Winslet revealed on Sept. 3 that she had separated from her husband of nearly three years, director Jim Threapleton. No reason for the split was given. The pair have an 11-month-old daughter, Mia.
Kate to divorce Jim - 04/09/01
Kate Winslet has moved back to Holloway to live with her older sister actress Anna, who she used to share a house with.
Kate moved back in, together with her baby daughter Mia, after annoucing the end of her three year marriage to assistant director Jim Threapleton. The marriage seemed rock solid - especially in the turbulent world of show business - but was crumbling over the last couple of months. It has been hinted in the press that Jim could not cope with the spotlight that was shining on his wife, whilst he was at home looking after the baby and spent most of his time out of work, and this spelt the end of their short three year marriage.

She continued in a performing arts school and followed graduation with roles in the British television drama Shrinks (1988), followed by appearances in the television series Casualty (1989), Dark Season (1991), Get Back (1992), and Anglo-Saxon Attitudes (1993) and theatrical roles including Pandora in the musical Adrian Mole, Wendy in Peter Pan, Sarah in A Game of Soldier, and Geraldine in What the Butler Saw.
Before she was a big movie star, Kate worked in a deli. She was actually in the middle of making a pastrami sandwich when she received the call that she’d been cast in the film "Heavenly Creatures." Kate Winslet got worldwide recognition when she was cast alongside side Leonardo Di Caprio to play ill fated lovers on board the Titanic, the film was a huge commercial success and won 11 Academy Awards.
She dated writer/actor Stephen Tredre for 4 and 1/2 years. The couple remained close even after their breakup. Sadly, Stephen died in 1997 after he lost his battle with cancer. Kate missed the U.S. premiere of "Titanic" to sing at his funeral in England. Kate also had a brief fling with fellow actor Rufus Sewell, however that all changed when Kate met and fell in love with Jim Threapleton, The couple met in 1997 on the set of "Hideous Kinky," where Jim was 3rd Assistant Director.
Kate married Jim Threapleton in 1998 they were married at the Anglican All Saints’ Church in Reading, near the Winslet family home, on November 22, 1998. Kate wore a beautiful white gown designed by Alexander McQueen, and the church was decorated with white and yellow roses. The ceremony was planned in absolute secrecy - not even the 170 guests knew the exact location! (This was in case any invitations happened to stray.)
They were told only to meet the carriages that would transport them to the church. The press didn’t get wind of the wedding until the very last minute, and they arrived just in time to catch some footage of Kate and Jim leaving the church. The wedding was followed by a reception at the Crooked Billet Pub, where the guests feasted on bangers and mash, a favourite dish of Kate’s. Later, the newlyweds headed off to their honeymoon on Scotland’s West Coast.
On October 12, 2000, Kate and Jim welcomed their first child, a little girl named Mia!
