"I’m not hating on her but someone like Lily Allen, just ’cause her dad’s famous, doesn’t have to work as hard as someone like me," she was quoted as saying.

But the paper reports that Lily has fought back, saying: "In response to Miss Sovereign’s comments, I’ve spoken to my dad and he says he’d be happy to adopt you if you think it will give you a leg up."

It isn’t the first time either of them have had a pop at a fellow artist.

Earlier this week the Daily Mirror reported that both Lady and Lily had criticised Corinne Bailey Rae for being "boring".

Perhaps they have more in common than they think?

Lady Sovereign slams Corinne - Feb 20 2007
Pint-sized rapper Lady Sovereign has had a pop at singer Corinne Bailey Rae - branding her "fake" and "boring".

The 21-year-old told the Daily Mirror she had words with Corinne backstage at a recording for T4.

"I told her she was boring and that she should be called Corinne ’Boring’ Rae," said Lady Sov.

"I think she’s a fake. She’s too nice. She sings about life being as sweet as roses but it’s not. It’s crap."

However, it seems Brit nominee Corinne wasn’t about to let the rapper’s comments get to her.

"Corinne just said ’whatever’ and turned on her heels like she was the Queen," Lady Sovereign said.

It isn’t the first time Corinne’s been labelled boring - earlier this month Smile singer Lily Allen said she would be annoyed if Corinne beat her at the Brits because she’s so dull.

She told the Daily Mirror: "Corinne Bailey Rae? I think she’s a bit boring, sorry. She’s a lovely girl but I don’t think her music stands out and I’d be a bit annoyed if she won."

Both girls walked away empty-handed.

Lady Sovereign takes on the US - Nov 1 2006
Rapper Lady Sovereign is making a high-profile attempt to crack America, with the help of hip-hop star Jay-Z.

But the 5ft 1in Wembley girl admitted she had been sick with worry while in the US, because her mother had recently been found to have her third brain tumour.

Lady Sovereign, real name Louise Harman, told the New York Times that she could not go home because of press and concert commitments, but had decided it was best for her mum to come to her instead.

"I’m flying her out to New York," she said.

"She’s never been to America. I’m just keeping myself together."

The 20-year-old, who is signed to Jay-Z’s label Def Jam, has released her debut album, Public Warning, in the US.

No UK rapper has ever made it big in the States but it is hoped Lady Sovereign’s association with rap royalty will overcome the scepticism of those not naturally inclined to take a white girl from Britain seriously.

Her video for her first single in America, Love Me or Hate Me, has already gone to number one in MTV’S Total Request Live countdown, and she has made a remix with Missy Elliott.

A huge billboard of the self-titled "biggest midget in the game" has gone up in Times Square, and publications like the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and Newsweek have pondered whether she could be the next big thing.

Biography

Louise Harman a.k.a. Lady Sovereign was born in 1986 on the Chalkhill Estate in North West London.

She first came to light in 2005, after she performed in “The Battle”, a girls vs. boys freestyle rap face off that helped to launch the careers of every performer involved, including Shystie, Suz Rock and Frost P. Her first album, “Random”, was released soon after, followed by her first UK top 40 hit – “9 to 5” (since rerecorded with The Ordinary Boys). The follow up single, “Hoodie” failed to reach the top 40, despite a high profile media campaign and being produced by Basement Jaxx. Her image profile in this country may well be to blame – she sold herself as the ‘Queen of the Chavs’ just as ‘chav culture’ was being derided most vehemently in the mass media.

Recently she has undergone a bit of an image change, and found some success stateside under the tutelage of Jay Z on his Island Def Jam label. She has since worked with AdRock from the Beastie boys and legendary producer Dr. Luke. An enormous banner was recently unfurled on Times Square to promote her album, and she has had a good measure of success on television, presenting on the Adult Swim network. She was embroiled in some controversy after releasing “Sad Ass Strippa”, a direct dig at singer Jentina.  This month, her single “Love Me or Hate Me” because the first video by a British artist to reach number one on the U.S. version of MTV’s Total Request Live.
