After spending time in a Utah rehab facility, Lindsay Lohan has made a low-key return to Los Angeles to shoot a movie.

People.com reports that the 21-year-old starlet arrived back in La La Land over the weekend, spending a quiet Sunday evening with friends where they watched the film Elizabeth: The Golden Age, before visiting a tanning salon.

Li-Lo is due on set to finish filming her part in tango-themed movie Dare To Love Me.

Her mum Dina told the website that her famous daughter is looking forward to returning to work.

"Lindsay is very happy and her life is back in control," she said.

Earlier this month the actress - the star of films such as Mean Girls, Herbie Fully Loaded and Georgia Rule - checked out of the exclusive Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah, where she has been since August.

Lindsay Lohan is to get round-the-clock help to stay sober, according to her dad.

The star is reportedly set to leave Utah, where she was in rehab, to finish filming Dare To Love Me in Los Angeles.

And her father Michael Lohan told People.com she will have a trained companion for support.

"Lindsay’s companion is really tough, and she’s really nice, she’s an amazing lady, a great influence on Lindsay’s life," Michael told the website.

Michael was also complimentary about Lindsay’s rumoured new beau - Riley Giles - who she apparently met in rehab at Utah’s Cirque Lodge Treatment Center.

"He’s a great, great kid," Michael said. "If you met him, you’d like him."

Unsure of where Lindsay will be staying in LA during filming - which is slated to begin on October 15 - Michael said he expects his famous daughter to return to Utah to live, receive more counselling and attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

And he said he’s unconcerned about reports of Li-Lo going out at night to establishments that serve alcohol.

"She goes out, she goes out," he told People. "She does the right thing."

Lindsay Lohan can rely on some paternal support once she gets out of rehab - the actress’s dad has said he’ll help her.

Michael Lohan, who reunited with the Mean Girls starlet last month after a two-year estrangement, is heading to Utah this week to spend five days of "quality time" with his troubled daughter - a visit he hopes will help in her battle to stay clean and sober, according to the New York Daily News.

"I’m looking forward to spending the next week with her. We’ve been in constant phone contact. She’s in a great, great place now," he said to the paper.

"I’ve never heard her so honest, contrite and focused. Lindsay is weeding out all the bad. She’s taking a step back and re-evaluating her life. What she tells - her honesty and openness - has brought me to tears. It’s beyond words how proud I am of her."

But Michael, who has turned his life around after battling with his own addictions, added: "We’ve still got a lot of catching up to do."

And Li-Lo’s mum, Dina, commented in an email to People.com: "It can only help her recovery. It’s time to mend. He is visiting Lindsay alone because we are giving her dad a chance to make amends."

Lindsay Lohan will not be leaving the Cirque Lodge rehab program in Utah this weekend, as had previously been speculated, according to her mum.

Dina Lohan told Access Hollywood in an email: "Not true, staying in Utah."

Biography

Lindsay Dee Lohan was born on July 2 1986 in New York. It may be hard to remember when we see photos of a scantily clad Lohan out on the town with pals like Paris Hilton and Kate Moss but it wasn’t so long ago that she was a sweet faced child star.

Born to a wealthy family Lindsay was nonetheless put to work from an early age. At three she was signed to a modelling agency and quickly built up a portfolio of work with the likes of Toys R Us and Calvin Klein Kids. As a teen she appeared in numerous magazines such as Elle Girl and Bliss and in television commercials for Jell-O among others.

At ten years of age Lindsay bagged a role on American soap Another World which she soon abandoned when offered a big screen part in the remake of The Parent Trap in which she played twins. The part brought her to the attention of filmmakers throughout Hollywood and ensured future parts would roll on in.

Made for TV movies and a short lived sitcom part followed before Lindsay, then sixteen, was offered another cult remake - Freaky Friday - alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. Two further teen flicks followed, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and the Clueless-esque Mean Girls. The success of the two movies cemented Lindsay’s status as Teen Queen. Closely followed by Herbie: Fully Loaded Lindsay hoped to make the transition to adult film star smoothly however 2006’s Just My Luck was not well received. More serious roles are set to follow in Georgia Rule, Speechless, A Woman of No Importance and The Best Time of Our Lives.

As well as acting Lindsay had taken the opportunity to showcase her musical skills in her films and before long she was taken under the wing of Mariah Carey’s ex Tommy Mottola. Her debut album, Speak, was released in 2004 with the single Rumours earning critical acclaim. 2005’s A Little More Personal included a dramatically intimate track aimed at her father who had spent much of Lindsay’s life in prison. She is currently working on a third album.

Since 2003 Lindsay has been regular tabloid fodder beginning with a rumoured feud with fellow teen actress Hilary Duff. Her weight has been a serious issue, with the actress admitting that she had ’nearly died’, before dedicating herself to getting her shape back. She has also gained the reputation of girl about town, partying hard with the likes of Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton whilst dealing with a run of bad luck which has included three car crashes and some rumoured illnesses.
