Mika... meet Mika - Sept 19 2007
Mika is apparently being faced with a big problem - a Belgian artist is registered with the same name.
It seems the female reggae artist is threatening to sue the singer for allegedly stealing her name - which she claims she registered during the 1980s, reports The Sun.
She has released five albums in her native country but hasn’t set the charts alight.
In contrast, our Mika burst onto the pop scene in January with track Grace Kelly and his debut album, Life In Cartoon Motion, has sold more than three million copies worldwide, going triple platinum.
The singer told the paper: "I was called Mika before him and have registered the name.
"Even though his real name is Mica, I think he should change it."
A source added: "She’s not happy.
"There’s only enough room for one Mika in the pop world - and she was here first."
Mika plays secret gig - June 28 2007
Flamboyant pop star Mika played an exclusive performance to just 300 fans on Wednesday night.
The gig, in Great Northern Square, Manchester, formed part of the 2007 Vodafone TBA series of secret, free gigs.
Fans enjoyed the rare chance to see the artist, who performed tracks from his debut, Life In Cartoon Motion, including chart-topper Grace Kelly and current hit Love Today, before he returns to the summer festival circuit and in advance of his autumn tour.
The Mika event is the third in this year’s series of Vodafone TBA gigs, which kicked off in May with a performance by Amy Winehouse in Bristol and was followed by Maximo Park playing the historic Oxford Union Debating Hall.
The opportunity to see the Lebanon-born star was made available to music lovers through www.vodafone.co.uk/music. As with all the gigs, the venue was only revealed by text just hours before in order to keep it top secret.
The gigs are taking place across the country in the run up to this year’s Vodafone Live Music Awards on September 19.
Mika: Music saved me - june 4 2007
Mika has credited music for helping him to read and write again after a troubled childhood.
The flamboyant singer moved from a war-torn Beirut to London, England when he was a child, and his education soon began to suffer.
The Grace Kelly chart-topper told The Sun: "A hard time at school early on in London led me to forget how to read and write. But music helped me."
Mika moved to the UK when he was nine years old - and he has admitted that he was bullied at school and had problems with dyslexia.
The award-winning singer said it was his colourful nature that set him apart from his pals.
"I was a show-off as a kid. A bit weird. But I had that beaten out of me by everyone I was at school with."
He was later home-schooled by his mum - and began to explore music.
Mika to pen song for Westlife? - May 10 2007
Mika is apparently planning to pen Irish boy band Westlife a new track.
The flamboyant Grace Kelly singer, whose debut album hit the No 1 spot, is also secretly working on a number of tracks for other artists, reports the Daily Star.
A source said: "Mika had given pop a good kick-start again in the fun department and turned around many opinions that the scene had perhaps gone a little stale.
"Westlife have been around for nine years now and want to freshen up their sound so Mika is exactly the man to do that."

With early jobs including working with the Royal Opera House, writing in-flight music for British Airways and jingles for Orbit chewing gum his path to pop stardom wasn’t always clear. However, his MySpace page and a download only release of Relax, Take It Easy in late 2006 saw Mika championed by Radio One, The Observer Music Monthly and gossip website Popbitch, snaring him a large fanbase early on and ensuring his gigs were packed out.
His second single, Grace Kelly, released as a digital download on January 8 2007 knocked Pop Idol Leona off of the top spot. With comparisons to Elton John, Scissor Sisters, Marc Bolan and Rufus Wainwright under his belt Mika looks set to be 2007’s biggest star.
His debut album, Life in Cartoon Motion, is set to be released on February 5.
