Naomi Campbell
- Profession: Model
- Place/Date of Birth: Streatham, South London, 22 May 2020
The model played down her reported spat with a videographer at a party in Rio during her conversation with the New York Daily News, saying "The video photographer, when I walked in, put the camera right at my head, so I told him, ’Don’t hit me in my head.’
"I was at the party for an hour and 15 minutes, and I was on the dance floor. I wasn’t hiding in a room."
She was also keen to deny being involved with the Candomblé religious sect, after attending the birthday party of one of the cult’s high priests, Tuca Franchini.
"I’m Church of England, Protestant. I was christened that," Naomi told the newspaper.
"I went to a party for a guy whose birthday it was. I don’t discriminate against what religion people have
"That’s what he does, but it doesn’t mean I have to be involved in it," she said.
Commenting on her recent sentencing at Manhattan’s Criminal Court to complete anger management classes and five days of community service for throwing a mobile phone that hit an employee’s head, Naomi said, "I’m remorseful and regretful.
"I’m trying to live my life and do some things for charity.
"I’m taking my punishment, and I accept that. I’ve accepted my responsibility and that’s that.
"I have no idea what [community service] I’ll do.
"Whatever they tell me to do, I’ll do with my integrity, and that’s it," Naomi said
Naomi for Ugly Betty role? - Jan 19 2007
It seems supermodel Naomi Campbell does have a sense of humour - she’s apparently agreed to play a "loony" in Ugly Betty.
Naomi, who this week pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour charge of reckless assault against one of her employees, will reportedly play a loveless woman who adores shopping in the Channel 4 show.
"On Ugly Betty I’ll play a loony who loves to shop and can’t find a man. I like that sort of character," the Daily Express reported her to have said.
The long-legged beauty certainly doesn’t have trouble bagging herself a man in real life - she has previously been linked to boxer Usher, Mike Tyson, Robert De Niro, dancer Joaquin Cortes and Renault F1 team boss Flavio Briatore. She was engaged to U2 bassist Adam Clayton.
The 36-year-old, who rose to fame in the 80s as the first black supermodel to adorn the cover of Vogue, is a well-practised performer.
She has attended the London Academy For Performing Arts and the Italia Conti Academy stage school.
Naomi facing civil case - Jan 18 2007
Lawyers for the maid who claims Naomi Campbell threw a mobile phone at her when she could not find a favourite pair of jeans today said they have launched a civil case against the supermodel.
The 36-year-old supermodel pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a misdemeanour charge of reckless assault in a criminal court over the incident, admitting she threw the phone, but insisting she never intended for it to hit Anna Scolavino.
She was ordered to do five days’ community service, attend anger management classes and pay medical bills of 363 dollars (£184) for Ms Scolavino after agreeing a plea bargain with prosecutors that saw a more serious assault charge dropped.
The housekeeper, who police said needed four stitches to her head, is now suing her for unspecified damages, alleging assault, battery, libel and slander.
In the lawsuit, filed in Brooklyn Supreme Court, the maid, 43, claims she told the Streatham-born model she could not continue working for her and would leave the Park Avenue apartment after the jeans incident.

She was raised by her grandparents since her mother, the ambitious Valerie, was making her way around the world with an exotic dance troupe. At 13, precocious Naomi started at the Italia Conti stage school. Two years later she was ’discovered’ in Covent Garden by a modelling scout.
Recently, she has been seeking anger therapy - her American agency fired her on the grounds that she was ’unbearable’ and published the following statement: ’No amount of money or prestige could further justify the abuse she has imposed on our staff and clients.’ She recently pleaded guilty to assaulting her assistant with the mobile phone she normally keeps clamped to her ear. Naomi had a top 10 hit with Babywoman in Japan and has a reputation for being always late.
She has been romanced by a string of men including Mike Tyson, Robert De Niro, Joaquin Cortes and was rumoured to have had a fling with Joseph Fiennes. She is currently dating Italian millionaire Flavio Briatore.
As well as modelling and a stab at a music career she has also penned a novel entitled Swan (1995) and has appeared in the film Pret-a-Porter, she also appeared in an episode of Absolutely Fabulous and once was a pupil in Grange Hill. Naomi has also just launched her own perfume. She also has an apartment in Chelsea. (written 2001)
