Nicole Richie admitted to police that she had mixed marijuana and the prescription drug Vicodin, when she was pulled over for an apparent DUI.

The star was pulled over for driving under the influence after two people called 911, saying they had spotted her SUV going the wrong way down the 134 Freeway, just outside Los Angeles.

Nicole didn’t put up a fight, says the California Highway Patrol and revealed that she had smoked some pot and then taken pills. Vicodin is totally legal as long as it is prescribed by a doctor, but can be addictive.

The socialite posted 15,000 dollars bail and was released from lock-up seven hours after being arrested.

Perhaps the most frightening thing about the whole experience was that on her arrest sheet, Nicole declared her weight as just 85lbs.

This hardly sits with the news that she had put on weight following her time in treatment for food issues.

Nicole Richie, star of The Simple Life, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

California Highway Patrol officers took the 25-year-old daughter of pop singer Lionel Richie into custody without incident after she failed an on-the-spot test in Burbank.

Richie’s black Mercedes sports utility vehicle was stopped in the car pool lane of State Highway 134 when officers arrived.

Authorities said they did get emergency calls about a car going the wrong way on the freeway and the car matched the description of Richie’s.

Richie was booked in Glendale, tested for drugs and later released, a police spokesman said.

The results of the drug test have not been determined.

A message left with Richie’s publicist was not immediately returned.

Richie is best known for starring with sometime-friend Paris Hilton in the reality show The Simple Life.

Burbank is 10 miles north-east of Los Angeles.

Nicole Richie is putting on weight and according to friends, "is in a good place".

The star revealed about a month ago that she was seeking treatment for her weight issues and according to sources who talked to People magazine, it’s working.

"She has [put on] at least five pounds," says one. "She wants to prove she’s trying to change."

The socialite has a new brunette hairdo and is getting ready to shoot the new series of reality show The Simple Life with reunited best friends Paris Hilton.

She has also got rid of some of her long-time friends who were apparently damaging her new improved psyche, like stylist Rachel Zoe.

Paris admits that: "she looks better than she’s ever looked. I love it." And another pal who recently spoke to her reveals: "She’s doing great. She’s taking care of herself and she’s in a good place."

That was illustrated by a much-praised appearance at last week’s American Music Awards, wearing a vintage Christian Dior frock.

Nicole Richie has denied the rumours that she underwent gastric bypass surgery and then had it reversed after losing too much weight.

The gossip story surfaced following a blind item in The New York Post, which mentioned a "Hollywood starlet" getting the procedure and then having it undone.

Biography

Nicole Richie was born on September 21, 2020 in Berkeley, California. She was informally adopted by Lionel Richie and his wife, Brenda Harvey-Richie in 1984, and formally adopted into the family six years later (her biological father is assumed to be Richie’s former drummer, and her mother a backstage tour assistant). Her godfather is Michael Jackson.
The subsequent split between Lionel and Brenda led to Nicole descending into drug abuse and a string of arrests. She eventually admitted her dependency and, in 2003, she was admitted into a drug rehabilitation unit.

Around the same time, Nicole was in the limelight on the series that would propel her into the mainstream, ‘The Simple Life’, co-starring with Paris Hilton. The future of the show, which was built on the idea of their close friendship, was put in jeopardy when the pair fell out in 2005. The split was rumored to be caused by Richie showing a copy of Hilton’s ‘One Night In Paris’ sex tape at a social gathering, or her jealousy of Hilton’s rising public profile. In any case, the split was prolonged and dramatic, with tracks on Hilton’s debut album being dedicated to admonishing their former friendship. Although the show continued, the pair stipulated that they did not want to appear on screen together.

She is currently dating American reality TV star and family friend Brody Jenner.
A proportion of her media profile is given over to speculation surrounding her body weight. Despite repeated assertions that she does not struggle with an eating disorder and that she is “naturally skinny”, she finally admitted herself into a private facility for the treatment of Bulimia on October 26.

Keen to prove that she is more than a media curiosity, she is currently working to release her debut album and is trying to break into acting. So far her appearances on screen have been limited to bit parts in music videos and on MadTV, plus one frostily-received film role (in the Josh Stolberg film ‘Kids in America’.)
