"But she was shocked when a friend said she’d seen him holding Camille’s hand. She went barmy but Preston insisted he’d bumped into his ex and was simply comforting her after she’d had some bad news."
Now it seems the reality star has laid down some rules.
"Chantelle has told Preston to keep his distance from Camille," added the source. "She’s really quite upset that she should have to face any rumours - however false or misconstrued they are."
Preston: Why I walked out - Jan 11 2007
Celebrity Big Brother star Preston has revealed why he stormed off TV quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
The Ordinary Boys singer walked out in disgust when his wife Chantelle was made the butt of a joke by host Simon Amstell.
"I went on Never Mind The Buzzcocks and I was very up for the kind of rib-poking you get on it but then he just started insulting my wife and, as any married man would know, if that was in any other situation I would have literally hit him and knocked him out," Preston told Radio 1’s Newsbeat.
"Obviously I didn’t want to resort to those sorts of things, so I just had to remove myself from the situation.
"If I’d had to look at his snotty little public schoolboy failed-career face, I would’ve hit him.
"He’s got no charm. He’s very bitter because he went on Popworld, he thought he was going to have this Ant and Dec massive career, and he’s just doing some little budget indie show on late at night."
The show recording took place on Tuesday and Simon jokingly read out an extract from Chantelle’s autobiography Living The Dream.
Describing a photoshoot in which she wore Marks and Spencer clothes, the Essex girl wrote: "I’ve always loved M&S, but it had always been too expensive for me. The photoshoot made me feel very posh and upmarket."
Preston, 24 - who wed Chantelle, 23 last year - said he hoped his walk-out would be broadcast.
"I think it’s brilliant - at least I’ve got principles," he said.
He added: "She (Chantelle) thought it was funny and quite sweet. She was really touched, actually."
Preston becomes an Ordinary name - Dec 20 2006
Ordinary Boys star Preston may be more influential than he realises.
It seems the Celebrity Big Brother contestant and husband of Chantelle Houghton has helped inspire parents to have their own little Prestons.
It is now the fastest climbing name for boys, according to the Daily Mail.
The Boys Will Be Boys singer has helped boost the name, which also belongs to a city in Lancashire, a whopping 1,346 places on the league table.
It is still only the 304th most popular name, but last year it was ranked a lowly 1,650.
Preston is actually just the star’s surname. His real first name, Samuel, remains a classic choice at No 17.
Ruby, the name of Louisa Lytton’s character in EastEnders, is the fastest rising girls name. It is ranked 12th overall, up from 45 a year ago.
Four other women followed Geri Halliwell’s example and named their daughters Bluebell.
Simon Williamson, the managing director of Bounty, who conducted the study, said: "Parents are becoming more adventurous with girls’ names and take their inspiration from all kinds of sources including celebrities like Geri Halliwell, who has certainly helped to make floral names a growing trend.
