Carlyle 'privileged' to act in sequel - April 27 2007
Robert Carlyle said it was a "privilege" to act in the sequel to sci-fi hit 28 Days Later - because he'd loved the original so much. see trailer
The new movie, 28 Weeks Later, picks up six months after the 'Rage virus' has devastated the UK.
The Full Monty star plays Don, the father of the two heroes of the film, who works as a janitor in the area where the survivors of the virus live.
But at the premiere in London's Covent Garden, he remained tight-lipped about what happens to his character.
"I can't really talk about that, it gives the game away. I could tell you but I'd have to kill you and it would be messy," he joked.
The actor added that he enjoyed working with director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo in the Spaniard's first English-language film.
"Carlos is a lovely, lovely guy, very quiet, very concentrated. He knows exactly what he wanted without shouting about it which makes a big difference."
And he said he had really enjoyed the original 28 Days Later, which was directed by Danny Boyle - who is executive producer of the sequel.
"I loved the first one, I really did. I love all of Danny's work, I'm a great fan of Danny's. I absolutely loved it so it was a privilege to be involved in the second one."
Baby ban - December 2006
Robert Carlyle won’t be allowing his kids to see his latest film, Eragon, because it’s too scary. The Scottish actor who has made a name for himself in scary film roles (with the odd lovely one for good measure), reckons his daughter and two sons won’t be seeing him wrestling dragons on the big screen any time soon. His daughter Ava apparently also has a hard time understanding what daddy does for a living, ’she thinks I go away and get photographed a lot because she sees pictures of me around the place,’ he explains ’now she says ’is that you Daddy? I’m not sure if that’s you.’’

He dropped out of school at 16 and spent his time working as a painter and decorator. Robert enrolled in acting classes at the Glasgow Arts Centre after finding inspiration in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, and won a scholarship to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (although he left after a term as he became dissatisfied with the institution). He then got an equity card from his appearance as Oberon in the Royal Scottish Orchestra’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
His first TV title role was as personable policeman Hamish Macbeth (a world away from his role as a psychotic killer in Cracker) and from there won international acclaim when he made his film debut in Ken Loach’s Riff Raff (1990). But the two roles that made Robert Carlyle a household name were poles apart - one an angry psycho called Begbie in Trainspotting and the other an out of work steelworker in The Full Monty. After these films his career has gone from strength to strength - appearing as the baddie in James Bond ’The World is not Enough’ and starring opposite Samual L Jackson in The 51st State. H has also played Hitler in The Rise of Evil and appeared in 2006’s fantasy, Eragon.
He married Anastasia in 1997 in Scotland, and they have a daughter Ava who was born on July 4, 2002, and two sons; Harvey, born in April 2004 and Pearce, born in 2006.
