Sophie’s son ’loves music’ - April 25 2007
With two music-loving parents, it’s no surprise that Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Richard Jones’ three-year-old Sonny is already picking up tips.

"I’m really pleased to be bringing up my little boy in an environment where there’s always music playing and instruments lying around," says Sophie.

"He hears songs on the radio and starts singing them to us. He does his own take. It’s lovely when there’s songs he really gets into and you catch him singing them," she grins.

"A lot of children love music, so I don’t know if he can have a particular disposition to mine. There’s a song on the Cars soundtrack that he’s quite into and there’s a Stevie Wonder song (I Wish) from the film Happy Feet. He also likes a bit of Franz Ferdinand and the Kaiser Chiefs. He really really likes them."

The proud mother adds that her son is also a fan of his dad’s band, The Feeling.

"From The Feelings’ album, his favourites are probably Love It When You Call or Fill My Little World," she says. "And there’s a song on my album called Love Is Here, which he really likes. I used to sing it to him when he was a baby."

Sophie gets married - June 05

Pop diva Sophie Ellis-Bextor has secretly wed longtime boyfriend, guitarist Richard Jones. The singer wore a traditional white designer gown at an intimate civil ceremony in Italy. The couple have a one-year-old son, Sonny, and hired luxury country hotel, the Palazzo Terranova, in Umbria for the nuptials on 25th June, which were attended by close friends and family. Sophie Ellis Bextor is to marry long term boyfriend. The singer has announced that she is to wed musician boyfriend Richard Smith this summer after a surprise proposal in Spain. The couple, who are to tie the knot in June, got engaged during a trip to Barcelona. "I fooled Sophie by telling her I wasn’t in to marriage," explained Richard in an interview with The Mirror, "I spent ages planning it. We went for a long weekend in Barcelona and had a few drinks in a bar on the beach. I even got down on one knee."

New single, new name - Feb 05
Sophie Ellis Bextor is to make a return to the charts with a new name. The singer has joined up with dance act Busface, providing vocals for the first time since giving birth to baby Sonny. Sophie will appear on the record, Circus, as Mademoiselle EB which, she says is to help avoid confusion as fans await her third album. "I am not trying to disassociate myself from the song" the new mum insisted, going on to assure fans "I just decided to have fun with an alter ego so there was no confusion over whether it was from album three or not."

Biography

Born in Middlesex, Greater London in 1979, Sophie Ellis Bextor was educated at Godolphin and Latimer School in Hammersmith and is the daughter of Janet Ellis, a former Blue Peter presenter. Sophie has always had a fairly definite ideas about who she wanted to be. She edited her school newspaper at Godolphin and Latimer and whenever debates about music came up in the playground, would confidently declare: "I prefer the original." By 16 a love of Madonna and Michael Jackson had been swapped for Britpop as Sophie, clad in Adidas, hung out at West End clubs like Popscene. " I loved that very tongue-in-cheek English thing" she explains.

She’d already started singing and at the club Uncle Bob’s Wedding Reception met musician Billy Reeves and handed him a tape. Two years later theaudience emerged, dressed in black, with spiky guitar pop and a bona-fida star in the shape of chicly glamorous Ellis-Bextor.
But despite the media acclaim, two Top 30 singles and a breezily confident album that owed more to classic Pretenders than it did Pulp, theaudience crumbled when Billy, the brain of the band, walked out.

In the summer of 2001 though Sophie stepped into the limelight as a solo artist. Her voice on Spiller’s "Groovejet (if This Ain’t Love)" was deliciously infectious, with a sexily-composed vocal that sang, "If this ain’t love, why does it feel so good?"
Sophie and Spiller shot to Number One beating off competition from Victoria Beckham and leading to her being dubbed ’The Real Posh’ as she sported a cheeky ’Peckham’ tshirt to celebrate her victory.

Sophie follwed up her success with a debut album, Read My Lips, and several successful singles including Murder on the Dancefloor, Take Me Home and Music Gets The Best Of Me.  However, when Shoot From The Hip, her second album failed to produce any real hits she took time off to be with her baby Sonny and marry The Feeling guitarist Richard Jones.

She is currently set to release a third album in collaboration with, among others, Fred Schneider of the B52s, Cathy Dennis and Shelley Poole.  Trip the Light Fantastic is expected to be released in the spring of 2007.
