Frontman Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers are first set to hold a rehearsal session attended by media at the The Whisky A Go Go nightclub in West Hollywood.
The announcement will mark 30 years since they formed and released debut single Fall Out.
The Police enjoyed worldwide success in the 1980s but have only played together a handful of times since splitting in 1984.

The Police to reform? - Jan 16 2007
It appears that rocker Sting wants 80s band The Police to reform.
The singer is in talks with drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers, according to the Daily Mirror.
It is not known whether they would reform for good or for a one-off gig or album.
"We started 30 years ago, so it would be nice to do something to celebrate. We don’t quite know what, but we’re talking about it," he is quoted by the paper as saying.
"I’m very proud of the band we were in. I left the band because I felt I wanted to grow as a musician, to mature as a musician and try to do more things than a band is able to do."
Fame and fortune came in 1977 when the star teamed up with American drummer Stewart to form The Police, with guitarist Andy joining shortly after.
Initially labelled "punk", they evolved into a mainstream, chart-topping band releasing hit after hit worldwide.
Message In A Bottle began a run of five No 1 singles.
Sting - real name Gordon Sumner - went solo in 1985, combining his jazz-rock roots with a skilful knack of writing commercial songs.
The Police split up in the mid 80s after their final album Synchronicity sold more than 10 million copies.
The group played together in New York in March 2003 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Police to reform? - Jan 5 2007
The Police could be set to reunite for a tour of Britain and America to mark the 30th anniversary of their hit debut single Roxanne, according to a US report.
Billboard magazine said sources had told it the rumours were legitimate but would not publicly comment until more details had been agreed.
A statement on former lead singer Sting’s website from A&M Records confirmed that some kind of commemoration was likely.
"While we can confirm that there will indeed be something special done to mark the occasion, the depth of the band’s involvement still remains undetermined," it said.
The trio split in 1986, although they did play an impromptu set at Sting’s wedding to Trudie Styler in 1992. They also reunited to celebrate their 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Sting has repeatedly expressed reluctance at reuniting, but drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers have been more positive, according to Billboard.
"I’m very keen on it," Stewart told the magazine after the Hall of Fame induction.
"But I absolutely understand why it’s not going to happen and I’m down with that.
"It was really great to be The Police for 15 minutes. If you can think of some other award we can go get or some other good reason, give me a call, and I’ll try it out!"

He has appeared in various films, including the brilliant Quadrophenia, and had a guest part in Guy Richie’s Lock Stock. In fact, Sting and his wife famously introduced Guy and Madonna at a dinner party at their house. Madonna was seated next to Guy and she has said ’My head didn’t just turn, it span full circle on my body.’
As well as having six children (two by his first wife Frances - and four with current wife Trudie) he is also a fan of yoga and once famously talked about his love of tantric sex!
