Ferry says sorry for Nazi comments - April 17 2007
Bryan Ferry has apologised "unreservedly" for his comments about the Nazis, after the star reportedly described the regime as "just amazing" during an interview.
A statement released on the singer’s behalf said he was "deeply upset" by the publicity concerning himself and Nazi Germany.
It continued: "I apologise unreservedly for any offence caused by my comments on Nazi iconography, which were solely made from an art history perspective. I, like every right-minded individual, find the Nazi regime, and all it stood for, evil and abhorrent."
It seems the Roxy Music star revealed he calls his West London studio his Fuhrerbunker, a title associated with Hitler’s headquarters, in German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.
And he reportedly said: "The Nazis knew how to put themselves in the limelight and present themselves. Leni Riefenstahl’s movies and Albert Speer’s buildings and the mass parades and the flags - just amazing. Really beautiful."
Calls were made for Marks and Spencer, for whom he models clothes and which historically has Jewish links, to re-think their contract with him.

He first began singing with a rock group called The Banshees, and later with The Gas Board. Then in 1970 after briefly working as a teacher, he formed Roxy Music with his friend Graham Simpson. During the rise to fame of Roxy Music, Bryan maintained a solo career, beginning in 1973 with "These Foolish Things", an album of his favourite cover versions.
In 1974 he released his second album "Another Time Another Place". Bryan took both these albums on to the stage and did his first live date as a solo artist with a date at The Royal Albert Hall 19th December 1974.
He was dating top model-of-the-day Jerry Hall who soon left him in the lurge for the far more glamorous Mick Jagger. Fortunetly, Bryan soon found love again and married society heiress Lucy Helmore.
Bryan announced in 2001 he would take Roxy Music on a reunion tour, their first tour in 18 years. This tour proved to be a huge success with 51 dates across Australia, Asia and Europe, finishing in Hammersmith Odeon. This date was filmed for a proposed DVD release which is due in the summer of 2002.
