Director Alfonso Cuaron wanted real magic to be a part of the Harry Potter films, and hired illusionist Paul Kieve to create live-action magic, as well as computer effects. The filmmakers were very impressed, and asked if Paul could teach a few lessons to the young actors. Daniel was unable to attend lessons, but Paul agreed to give him some private tutition.
Paul said ’"It’s really incidental to the film but he has become rather good and has been practicing hard. We meet up on his days away from the set and we spend two or three hours doing magic. ... Like any other 14-year-old, he has been bitten by the bug. When the producers took him for a Chinese meal, he was doing magic at the table."
Daniel is Harry once again - 01/11/03
Daniel Radcliffe has confirmed he will return as Harry Potter in the fourth film, the Goblet of Fire.
Why was this in any doubt? Surely only Daniel can play the Voldemort defeating wizard (and apologies for mentioning He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!). You can’t really imagine Harry as anyone else, but apparently there were fears that Daniel would age quicker than the teen wizard, seeing as the films take up so much time filming.
Daniel is currently filming the third film of Harry - The Prisoner of Azkaban.
