Mariella: I'm terrified of jet lag! - Sept 27 2007
It seems Mariella Frostrup won't be crossing the pond to nurse her injured buddy George Clooney.
Despite the pair's close friendship, Mariella apparently told The Independent that she struggles to find the energy to visit him in the US.
"We went to see George in Italy over the summer but we never make it to America to see him anymore," said the TV presenter, who is married to Jason McCue and lives with him and their kids in London.
"We just can't do it as I'm so terrified of jet lag.
"With two young children it's such a nightmare travelling for long distances
Oscar winner George - who stars in new movie Michael Clayton - fractured a rib and suffered some scrapes after being involved in a car accident over the weekend. His companion Sarah Larson, who is rumoured to be his latest amour, broke her foot.
Mariella leads by example - June 10 2007
Mariella Frostrup is doing her best as the face of a charity fundraising campaign - by bidding in the auction that will pull in most of the cash.
The 44-year-old broadcaster is heading the Million Pound Appeal for MediCinema, which installs full-size cinemas in hospitals and needs the money to set up three facilities in Wales, Stoke Mandeville and Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
One of the main fundraising activities is an auction of behind-the-scenes photographs taken on the sets of major blockbusters including Fight Club and Die Hard, and Mariella is after a couple.
"There’s two prints that I have my eyes on," she said. "One of the Magnificent Seven, all sat in a row on their chairs with their names on, and another of Thelma And Louise about to drive over the cliff but taken from behind, so you can see all the crew on the other side ready to shoot them.
"I haven’t decided whether to bid for the Magnificent Seven for my husband, or Thelma And Louise for myself!"
The auction begins on Monday, and will be hosted by www.empireonline.com.

Mariella?s Memory - July 27, 2020
Local journalist Mariella Frostrup has joined fellow Observer contributor Dr Mark Porter in launching Radio 4?s Memory Season. The season features discussion shows, plays and features on the problems of a failing memory, memories of people and places past and much more both serious and amusing. The opening show featured Mariella and Porter ruminating on the strange and silly side of memory loss (how could Mariella?s husband remember every detail of every England World Cup match but forget broccoli, apples and carrots at the supermarket? Why was it that Dr Porter could recall minute detail from his medical school days but never his neighbour?s name?). Among the features of the season is the largest ever survey to examine the nation?s memories.
