The way to No.1- March 05
Peter Kay and Tony Christie head for top of the charts.
The award winning comic teamed up with seventies crooner Tony Christie for a re-release of Is This The Way To Amarillo in aid of Comic Relief and, on it’s first day in the shops, it’s already outselling all the other releases put together. HMV have even reported that they have had to order in more copies of the single because demand is so high. The video features Kay miming along to the song, which he has previously used in his TV series Phoenix Nights, and it looks like this will be enough to get 61 year old Christie his first number one.

Peter Kay has called time on his John Smiths ads.
The Bolton funnyman has decided that it’s time to move on from the beer adverts that first brought him to the greater public’s attention. The ads, which have featured Kay as a Sunday League footballer, an Olympic diver and a curry eating Dad, have now been running for several years and it seems that even the man himself has had enough of them as he decides not to renew his contract with the bitter manufacturers.
Bolton’s a tourist trap - April 04
Tourism in Bolton has risen by 10% thanks to Peter Kay.
According to local tourism bosses visitors to Bolton spent £152million last year, up 10% on 2002. Those in the know say this rise is due to the Commonwealth Games and Peter Kay’s hit comedy Phoenix Nights which is based in a Bolton social club. And that’s not forgetting the current slew of famous faces coming out of the town,
Radio 1’s Sarah Cox and Vernon Kaye both come from the town as does Vernon’s missus ITV presenter Tess Daly.
